Both smell and flavor are delicately but noticeably spiced with a dark pepper of some kind that balances the sweetness perfectly. Very sound. Almost unfair that it’s a regular porter.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 21, 2009 12 oz. bottle - Poured black with small tan head.
Aroma - coffee grounds and oatmeal.
Flavor - I tried the Devil Over the Barrel before this one and prefer the one aged in bourbon barrels. This beer has good coffee flavor with nice roasted taste.
Palate - medium mouthfeel with average carbonation. Finish is mildly bitter and short.
Overall - Great coffee porter but I much prefer the Devil Over The Barrel!!! inkubus27 (255), Highland, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Pours a silky deep black and has the most perfect head I’ve ever seen. Aroma is like a cup of quality bold coffee. Flavor is damn fine as well. Taste of coffee is pretty heavy, but it’s somehow balanced perfectly. Very smooth but medium thin mouthfeel. A nice twist on a porter and definitely worth a try. 17thfloor (1513), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 20, 2009 So after about 15 minutes of confusion, I’m ready to rate this. The top label says "The Devil Made Me Do It" with the little man on top saying "cool beans." Except, the bottle label is identical to the "Devil over a barrel" bottles I have... soo either a labeling error... or they just use the to top labels to discern the different beers? After a few sips, this is definitely not the barrel-aged version which I’ve had before, but equally as delicious. Smells like a black cup of morning coffee with a touch of oatmeal and cream. Fantastic coffee stout "porter" whatever, doesn’t taste like expensive coffee, just vividly translated fresh coffee, one cream and light sugar. This beer is really up there with Kentucky Breakfast, Peche Mortel, and Beer Geek. The after-taste is so authentic dinner the morning after going out. Fantastic body, full mouthful but very drinkable, ever so lightly sticky, super soft larger carbonation. [after reviewing xnoxhatex’s notes... I do taste some of the caramel and of course the chocolate] Swolf3 (253), Elkton, Maryland, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 7, 2009 Good coffee flavor-very potent. Some crystal coming through. Very smooth palate, but slightly thin when matching against flavor strength. Good chocolate mixed in with the roast. WisconsinBeer (536), St Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep black color with very minimal head. Flavor is....delicious. Roasted malts, mild black coffee, oatmeal, sugar, cinnamon, the list goes on. Body is full with an oatmeal smoothness. Finish is lingering, slightly sweet and coffee bitter. This stuff goes down REALLY smoothly. Haven’t met a Brewers Gone Wild! that I haven’t liked yet. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 31, 2009 2007 12oz bottle acquired in trade. Consumed January 2009, at least 2 years old. Pour is decidedly black with an aroma of very roasty coffee and burnt malt. The flavor is chocolate up front with the coffee bitterness rounding it out. Actually a very nice mix. Holding up very well after so long.
