Smells like breakfast. The flavor is similarly breakfasty - tons of great coffee, some rich oatmeal notes and some milk chocolate. Mouthfeel is incredibly creamy. This is a truly awesome brew, very impressed. decaturstevo (2010), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 7, 2009 An almost black pour. Roasted malt with light coffee and chocolate on the nose. Good coffee with chocolate undertones. Decent bitter finish. Thick rich and creamy palate. Very solid with a just right warmth. The way a porter should be for me. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 3, 2009 This poured black in color with a moderate head of very fine light beige bubbles. The nose immediately screams of rich coffee followed by oatmeal, roasted malt and milk chocolate. In the mouth this was medium-bodied, concentrated and rich. The palate adds some creamy vanilla flavor to go along wtih the coffee and chocolate from the nose. The carbonation is fine but keeps this fresh and felling light. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2009 Black pour with tan head. Aroma is all coffee and a bit of sweetness. Flavor is roasted malts and coffee. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, though. Kind of like Founders Breakfast stout, but thinner. For a coffee beer, this is pretty good though. blipp (1751), Newark, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 13, 2008 Bottle from KingpinIPA. Pours near black with a tan head. Huge aroma of roasted coffee beans and espresso. Mouthfeel is full and creamy. The flavor again has loads of coffee, burnt wood, roast, and toasted oats. This is definitely a breakfast beer. noncaloric (629), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Updated: Mar 9, 2009Pours darkest brown with a thin, quickly vanishing tan head. Aroma is all coffee, very bright and aromatic. Flavor is similar, the bright espresso coffee elements blend very well with the bittersweet roasted barley porter element. A little bit citric, turning earthy, more like coffee grounds, on the finish. Medium body and carbonation, tingling mouthfeel. GMCC2181 (883), Bear/Elkton, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 5, 2008 Bottle shared by wolf.... Aroma was coffee beans before they were ground up. Almost espresso like. Great aroma. Taste was pretty much the same. Taste just like coffee beans before they were ground up and a light touch of oatmeal. The texture was light, but not weak...Easy to drink solid beer that I enjoyed. Thanks wolf for sharing your good beers. sbroome (80), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Like coffee beers? Then get this. Tranena has done it right with The Devil Made Me Do It. Sold in a 4 pack for $8.99 and worth every penny. Black and oily, heavy coffee smell and smokey roast. Medium carbonation and long-lingering coffee aftertaste. There are few things better in the beverage world that beats this beer. Barley Island’s Black Magic Java Stout comes close, but this is top-notch and a must-buy.
