BeerBelcher (714), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 28, 2007 Updated: Jan 29, 2007I had this beer on-tap at the brewery, and thought it a rather mild-mannered Scotch ale that was extremely enjoyable.
This beer poured a dark brownish red in the glass, that was more gold-colored when light shone through it. It had pretty good head formation.
Aroma was of caramel malt and uncomplicated. Flavor was more complex, with caramel flavors melding with toffee notes and a more subtle peatiness in the background.
Mouthfeel was unremarkable, but I found this beer exceedingly drinkable for the style. KingpinIPA (816), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 28, 2006 Sampled from LtJudge growler. Dark color. Smell of roasted coffee and very malty. Tastes sweet and maltly. Can’t taste a lot of hops but a good bitterness that makes this beer taste very good. brewblackhole (1222), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA May 15, 2006 Sampled from LtJudges growler. Strong sweet malt and smoked peat aroma, brown amber color, great complex malt emphasised taste, with overtones of honey, molasses and brown sugar, slight slickness on the tongue afterwards. Enjoyed this right after a hugely hoppy brew, which made the malt emphasis of this Scottish even tastier. I agree, this should be bottled LtJudge (354), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA May 14, 2006 Sampled from a growler.Pours a dark brownish amber with a small head.Has a wonderful malty/earthy aroma.Flavor of roasted coffee/caramel malts with a earthy undertone and a slight bitter finish.Man this stuff is WONDERFUL! 1FastSTi (2388), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Apr 10, 2006 "2005 Peated Wee Heavy". Pours to a rich mahogany body with a thin white head. Lacing doesn’t want to stick. The flavor is a very smooth peat. Nice and not over done. Powdered sugar covered funnel cake as well. The is not generally a favorite style, but this sucker’s great! Nice background malts (whatever they are). Really damn good. The aroma is lightly peaty white bread and is nicely malty. The palate is lively, creamy, sharp and velvety. This beer brings new life into Scotch Ales! OMG. This stuff is EXCELLENT! Bottle it!
