Quack-Duck (1905), Bodensee, Germany Oct 7, 2008 previously tested on BTO 04/2007: Dank an MoritzF!
Liecht trüb, ordentlich Schaum, sehr schöne Farbe. Überraschend herb, schon fast bitter zu nennen, aber mit sehr aromatischem Hopfen, fein. Dazu ganz dezente Röstmalzaromen. Vielleicht gerade wegen der Herbe voller Charakter und Charme. motelpogo (4124), Plzen, Czech Republic Jan 29, 2008 bottled, big thanks to pivnizub for this one. deep brown, light haze, burnt grass aroma with hints of toffee and banana, lightly tinny with plenty of bitterness and hints of red berries. tasty stuff Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 27, 2007 Cloudy amber pour covered by a lasting off-white head. A very very dry alt, hoppy from the beginning to the finish and in my mind, this cuts a lot in the malt development which other Düsseldorf better clearly do better than Uerige (despite their pub being so cool). Drying bitterness offers earthy and mineral nuances, but the complexity suffers from this hop focus. Surprisingly, the palate manages to be almost creamy. Ultimately, I don’t understand why so many considers Uerige to be the top Alt brewer in the world. JorisPPattyn (4500), Antwerpen, Belgium Sep 21, 2007 Hazy dark amber, bit of UFO’s; with huge, very fine & dense dark beige head, lacy. Wood, yeast, dry malts, some of them coloured, fresh green leaves. BItter à souhait , wood, little smokiness, but above all a WONDERFUL bitterness, achieved, it would seem, with only noble German hops. Medium bodied, chewy, velvety texture. Another superb realisation from my N°1 favourite German brewpub. Danke, Sebastian harrisoni (5331), Ashford, Kent, England Sep 17, 2007 Bottle at LCRBM3. Orange, cloudy, lasting beige head. Odd bleachy aroma. Some pepper. Nice bleachy beer with great hop on the end.
