Commercial Description:
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Pours amber with a decent head. Aroma of caramel, spicy and earthy hops. Some sweetness, solid bitterness at the end. Alcohol comes through a little.

Poured from a 11.2oz swing-top bottle and served in a shaker. This beer poured a murky, rudy brown with a thin head of tan foam that slightly lasted. The aroma of the beer was made up of super sweet toffee and caramel, brown sugar, a touch of chocolate, and also some dark fruits. Very malty and barley wine-like. The flavor was heavy on the caramel, while also containing notes of fruit, dates, and some mildly bitter roast. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with a light stickiness. Light carbonation. A nice, malty drink. Not overly sweet. Decent.

Extremely sweet...almost sticky and syrupy. Aroma and flavor display brown sugar, caramel, toffee, maple and dark fruit. Raisin-like color with a small khaki head. Hides the 8.5% well.

Bottle, and I almost want to give it extra points for such a cool bottle. Deep amber brown pour with fluffly little tan head. Smells like burnt sugar, malt, caramel, molasses, and a surprising little hop kick. Notes of licorice, all the malty goodness described above, and some hops. Not very yeasty. Reminiscent of a barley wine. Solid.

Kick ass bottle @ Maproom, so I needed to taste an Alt, why not! Bright dark amber w/ creamy finger of pale tan foam. Aroma of grassy hops & sticky caramel. Light, mildly sticky feel. Flavours are well-balanced w/ a light herbal spiciness. Overall not something that wowed me but a soild brew.

Pours cloudy brown with a large tan head. Nose is molasses/sugary. Flavor is surprisingly peppery, along with the heavy malt/molasses flavor. Also raisin and floral hops. Oily and syrupy mouthfeel. Pretty good.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a tan head. Smells like a bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and nuts. Sweet and burnt brown sugar flavor with a hint of licorice. Warming alcohol and a hoppy finish. great at room temp. B

Deep, dark brown, ruby. Compact, tan head, sticky lace. Deep. strong malty aroma, molasses, dark bread, caramel, hint of oxidaton. Medium full body, lucsious malts, nuts (reminds me of an vintage harvest ale) very nice in mouth, soft, bit sticky as warms, hints of oxidation in taste but not too horrible. Hops come through, adding nice flavor and backing bitterness. Would love to try a really fresh sample for this has a bit f age I presume. But a gem of a brew.
