| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 15, 2008 Wood cask @ Beer Table. Poured brown with a hint of reddishness into a small Uerige straight sided glass, subdued tan head. Nose is malty, hints of alcohol, caramel, toffee, dark fruits. Taste is sweet, caramelized brown sugar, dark fruits, with an almost subdued hoppy bitterness in the finish. Definitely a delicious beer, and a very unique take on a traditional german style. ansermadide (516), Kyle, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 14, 2008 Going into this expecting something barley wine-ish probably isn’t the best way to do it. unless you pay attention to the part of the commercial description that reads "Germany’s INTREPRETATION." That said, it was a pleasure to drink! Like a hoppy doppel bock/barley wine sort of concoction. Definitely unique, and something I’m not sure I could have handled a few years ago. I guess getting older has its benefits afterall! Love the bottle. beastiefan2k (1603), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 13, 2008 Wooden pin @ the Beer Table. It has a brown color. The aroma is wood/bark, faint alcohol, and it surrounded by light dark fruits. Taste is lightly syrupy sugar with dark fruits and light prunes. It finishes with a bitter finish, It really nice and very un-German. Its easy drinking yet the bitter finish gives it some real heft. There is an aspects of sweet prune in the finish as well. Very nice and I am glad I got to try this pin as opposed to the bottles. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 10, 2008 Clear mahogany with a creamy tan colored head. Big fruity melanoidan aroma with raisin, plum, caramel malt, floral hops. Soft, fruity and alcoholic in flavor. More bitter than most German Dopplebocks I’ve had. Candy like in flavor, similar to a Dopplebock but perhaps a little lighter in body with some tanginess and a more pronounced hop flavor. ironchefscott (342), portland, Oregon, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Updated: Feb 16, 2009bottled 04/18... not sure what that means. rich hazy amber/brown color with a small khaki head that leaves light spotty lacing. smells like raisins and skunky hops mixed with sweet malt, molasses, wood and grass. it tastes like regular ovaltine... chocolate, vanilla, raisins and sweet grains. a nice dry bitter grassiness offsets the sweet (but not cloying) palate. aftertaste is of grassy and skunky hops. medium to full body with soft carbonation and a slick smooth texture. 7/4/8/4/16/3.9
on tap at papago... ruby tinted brown shade of black with a huge puffy off white head. additional aromas of fresh cherries and maple syrup added to the prior review. lots of spice and a hint of alcohol creep in on the palate as it warms. any sugar previously tasted from the bottle is no issue and really nowhere. roasty bitterness and fresh hoppy dryness really clean it up nicely. full rich body with a luscious creamy mouth feel...8/4.5/8/4.5/17/4.25
