Aroma is so heavy in melanoidins they’re branching off into all kinds of dark territory. Rum raisin, fruitcake, plummy rum, cocoa. Deep purple color, light carbonation which meant no head, but it did leave a very fine if sparse lacing in the glass. Rich melanoidins in the flavor, chewy with chocolate toffees and a date like fruitiness. Long rich bittersweet finish. Mildly warming. Smooth if slightly slick mouthfeel. tronraner (1933), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark mahogany with moderate beige head. The aroma is very fruit, with raspberry, dark cherry, plum, a little bit of raisin, with a faint spicy yeast quality. The flavor is packed with spicy bitterness, and is rather coarse and almost tannic. Once past that, the fruity and caramel malts jump out. The finish is dry and woody. Decent enough drink, this. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Bottled poured into a Kölsch/Altbier glass. With the cylindrical shape of the glass & the dark murky color of the beer this could be a core sample from the bottom of the Mississippi River. The head medium to small and creamy looking. UDS has a huge bouquet of dark fruits like plums along with licorice and spicy hops. The malt insists on notice as well. The taste is malty and sweet. Raisin and timber reside in an extremely soft feel. This is by far the best example of an altbier I’ve ever had. michael-pollack (2711), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2008 330ml Bottle: Aroma is sweet. Smells malty, with notes of nuts, slight funk, toffee, and a little yeast. Poured chestnut brown in color with a medium-sized, creamy tan head that lasted throughout. Good lacing. Hazy. Very sparkling. Flavor is a bit sweet. Tastes very malty, with notes of herbs, wood, nuts, salt, and something I cannot identify. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malty finish. henrikb (1303), Aarhus, Denmark

Great beer! xmarcnolanx (798), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 20, 2008 Aroma is touches of cocoa, nutty, and bock-ish with malty/grainy element and a touch of hops.
Taste has hints of hops and is bittersweet with a grainy and dull copper essence to it.

Pours a dark ruby with 2 cm off-white head that is mostly diminishing. Aroma is full of dark fruits, mostly raisins. Flavor is well balanced with dark fruits, maybe more dates now, and bitter hops and some citrus. Medium body, no carbonation, very light lacing, some alcohol noted as it warms. Nice beer and drinkable. dchmela (1444), Orlando, Florida, USA

Pours reddish black with a thin white head. Aroma is heavy caramel malt, molasses, and roasted malt. aroma is just overpowering. Doppelbock aroma on steroids. Thick malt taste with caramel malt, roasted malt, and molasses. Thick powerful and different, thanks to Solan for suggesting it.
