Commercial Description:
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

7/14/05 330ml. side by side with Uerige Alt. Dark brown with small quick dissipating head. Aroma consist of Vanilla malt and alcohol. Palate was a little too viscous and had too much alcohol. I did not think more was better in this case.

Poured a cloudy brown color with a thin tan head which quickly faded away, there was some mild lacing. Aroma was mainly malty some roasted some sweet. I really can no describe the as caramel like , but it was sweet. Flavor was rich with roasted malt note with a nice spice at the end. Full bodied.

The color was murky medium/dark orange/brown. The head was medium bodied, creamy, frothy, and light biege. The aroma was pleasant with scents of root beer, spices, and sweet malt. The flavor was alcohol, spicey, waxy at the back of the mouth, hops, sweet malt, and basement must. The palate was nicely carbonated. The finish was waxy and warm.

Pours a murky reddish brown with a nice creamy tan head. The aroma is sweet, caramel, raisins, bubblegum, alcohol, very very nice. Warm alcohol, flavor is much more toned down than nose, earthy rich malty, caramel, slight hop wax at the back of the mouth. Full smooth palate with a noticeable carbonation and pleasant warmth. Delicious. If only the flavor had lived up to the aroma.

The 11.2 ounce bottle poured a clear deep mahogany (reddish brown) colored beverage with a modest creamy off-white head that was mostly diminishing but left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was strong and fruity with notes of plum, raisins, caramel and just a hint of aged leather. The body was medium-full with soft carbonation and a smooth creamy texture. The flavor started out moderately bitter with just a hint sweetness at the edge. The finish was long with a bit of alcohol warmth in the chest and the bitterness mellowed nicely.

Poured a dark amber-chestnut body with a creamy off-white dome and great lacing. Sweet, caramel, chocolate, fruity nose. Very complex. Bold, well-balanced and extraordinarily awesome!

I just spent quite a while typing up a very detailed review but then my browser messed up and erased it. I don’t feel like typing it all out again. The most unique thing about this beer I thought was that the aroma smelled most like some kind of woman’s hand soap - very flowery and fruity but in a way that reminded me of soap. Odd, but pleasant.
