| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 11, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Plucier: Poured a dark brown color beer with a huge foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of chocolate and dry raisins is enjoyable but definitely not what I was expecting. Taste is comprised of sweet malt with some nice notes of chocolates and dry fruits with a somewhat dry finish. Well done overall but definitely not what I was expecting for and Alt but again it is style that I don’t really know too well.. WeeHeavySD (3002), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA

Pours an odd light brown with a stable firm 2 finger off white head. The nose is sweet and strong. This is very malty and sweeter than I had expected. I don’t know if I would go as far as the commercial description and push this into the realm of German barleywine, but it is certainly more complex and bigger in taste than average German fair. johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 5, 2007 Poured murky pond water which subsided into a nice dark ruby red color with an off white head. Aroma of cherries and alcohol. Taste of sweet malt, light hops, and fruit with an alcohol burn finish. You can taste every bit of the 8.5% alcohol. Very different and not my type of brew. Big roasty leafy nose. Bold attack--big body, firm carb, aggressive flavors. Deep earth and roast and wet leaves, clingy, burny finish. Wonderful stuff.
