Vanilla/orange fruitcake aroma (initially had a wet wood/cardboard aroma that faded after setting for a few minutes. Yellow-amber color with small but long lasting head. Dried orange malt with strong citric hops finish - not cloying though. A great sipping beer - in a class by itself - a doppel-alt. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Bottle: Pours a deep crimson mahogany color with a nice puffy white head and lots of lacing. The nose is very malty with lots of cherry, alcohol, fig, dark crusty bread and a hefty dose of molasses, honey and plum. The flavor is a bit sweet and chewy, lots of alcohol and a full bodied spicy malt mouthfeel. Bittersweet finish and a pleasing floral tail. Altbier? More like imperial! motelpogo (4395), Plzen, Czech Republic

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2007 Pours a clear maroon with little to no head. Pretty unique smell with bread dough, dark fruits, malt, and orange. Kind of bitter in the taste, slightly sweet. Grapefruit, citrus, and malts. Kind of wrecks the palate. Not too bad, pretty interesting. mephisto (1144), Taiwan

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 6, 2007 Muddy brown pour with bubbly tan head. Wonderful aroma that is very complex with definite hints of raisins, sugar and malt. Taste is similary complex with a beautiful alcohol flavor combined with a nutty, roasty aftertaste; the honey flavor is again evident, but nowhere near as strong as in the Sticke. The hops definitely come through as well in the aftertaste. Nice creamy palate; the Uerige products I have sampled to date cannot be compared to anything else I have tried in my short ’legal age’ lifetime...they are worth seeking out! luvcasks (178), USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2007 pours a gorgeous mahogany with a light tan head... which oh! so gracefully falls to a thin layer
Nose of raisins, plums, caramel, some smoke and a whiff of alcohol
Taste is incredibly variegated, licorice, dark figs, roast, smoke all with a nice big firm hop bite which is (black pepper like) spicy. the alcohol is very well hidden.
The finish is long creamy, medium bodied and grrr... I cant put words here.. smoke, fruit and hop appear and disappear
Overall: Absotively and posolutely, a German interpretation of barley wine. At 8.5 % should be a sipper but it is so beguiling and inviting flavorful that damn it I seem to be headed to the inevitable bottom of the glass. A must try!...I wonder what would happen if all 3 barley wine styles are tasted side-by side... I am rating it high... I don’t think there is a style for the sticke BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2007 Small pop-top brown bottle from Florian’s in Auburn. Copper-red slightly murky translucent body with about a half an inch of off-white head that leavea fairly good lacing. Nuttiness dominates the aroma with just a hint of black licorice or root beer quality to it. Nut, caramel malt, roastiness all play big parts in the flavor with hints of black licorice, fruit, and smoke with a clean finish. Some alcohol warming present, although alcohol flavor is almost non-existent (impressively). A nice and surprising creamy mouthfeel. Drinkable for the abv and body, but I’d still approach this as a bit of a sipper. Actually impressed with this one. An impressive altbier and a damn good lager.
