Commercial Description:
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Pours an ever so slightly hazed copper color. Half the pour is beer, half the pour is foam. Good head retention (a little too good - I am getting impatient). Decent lacing. Sweet malty aroma - caramel and brown sugar. The flavor is very similar to the aroma, but substantially more pronounced. Then there is this wonderfully bitter hop presence in the finish that makes you forget that this is a sweetish beer. Until the next sip, anyway. Ah - when the last sip is gone, that hop presence lingers a good long time. Fuller body, on the smoother side, and softly but very generously carbonated.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with hints of red, with a decent sized white head. The aroma is extremely malty, with a hint of hops. The flavor was very malty. Sweet fruits, caramel, dates, raisons, with a touch of alcohol. Very smooth and tasty.

11.2oz bottle. Aroma: Good sweet maltiness with a nice toffee note. Alcohol and dark fruits seem to twine together in an aroma similar to rum raisin. Some bready yeastiness and a bit of spiciness. Appearance: Poured a murky reddish brown. Off-white head was small, creamy, and short lived. Not much lacing. Flavor: Medium-sweet maltiness with some caramel and raisin. Alcohol is noticeable but merges well with th rest of the beer. Some light earthy hops into the finish. Sweet but not cloying finish. Medium-light bitterness. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Low carbonation. Light alcohol warming in back of mouth. Overall: Very ’barleywine-esque’. Lots of good malt flavors. Low carbonation kept me from scoring this higher.

First of all, great looking bottle and nice touch with the resealable ceramic top. Pours a deep reddish brown that allows some light to pass through. Thick, creamy head. Aroma is malt, raisins, dates and caramel. These same qualities are also present in the flavor albeit a bit stronger than the aroma. Bitter finish but not excessive. The alcohol is noticeable but does not interfere with this beer. A nice choice for a winter evening.

This beer is mother’s milk to me! brought to me courtesy of brentk56...THANK YOU! poured a beautiful deep amber/rust color into my HB stick. The smell is rich with raisins, molasses, and sweeter malt. The taste is all molasses, toffee, raisins, plum, and a little red apple. mouthfeel is super creamy and smooth. Fantastic beer. just absolutely awesome.

now this is a beer. Glorious dark ruby color with a frothy white head. Aroma is very malty, caramelly. Flavor is very rich and thick. Glorious malt flavors, not sure what beers I’ve had that are as malty as this. Some dark fruit flavors, too. It’s almost a barleywine without hops and without the nasty alcohol sting. Thus, the bitterness is not as pronounced as the uerige alt, but there is still some bitterness on the finish. If I could only find the Sticke I think it wouldbe the right balance of flavor without all the alcohol a la Goldilocks and the three bears. Afterthought, wow this bastard has 75 ibu’s, but it’s blended well with the malt.

Nice hop aroma upfront, sligh citrus fades, with touchs of dark fruit. Palate is full bodied alcohol is hardly noticable. Nice winter-time drink though I prefer my barley-wines with a bit mor umph.

has a sweet beer-like aroma. No kidding. Really does. This beer is slightly on the bitter side, but not excessively so. Has a pleasant bitter-sweetness that is easy to sip and encourages a responsible and proper alcohol delivery pace.
