Starts off with a sweet taste followed by a chewiness and dry feel. You know its strong without tasting the alcoho until the endl. jasonp (1510), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2006 Sampled at Dutch 70’s "Tasting in the Woods; Part Deux". Clear dark amber with a thick white head. Bready, doughy caramel nose with some grassy hops. Flavor has notes of dark caramel, lots of bread, alcohol and tons of resinous noble hop bitterness. Pleasantly sweet too. Full, round and creamy with moderate carbonation. Really good stuff. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2006 Interesting balance between the hop and malt department with this beer. A dark amber in appearance with an aroma was a bit overly alcoholic, strongly malty, a little roast and some hops also present. A very malty sweet flavor, however it is nicely off set with hops so one tune doesn’t play louder than the other. Also some alcohol on the palate. Good beer. Cool bottle. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 18, 2006 Bottle. Pours clear brown with an off-white fizzy spare head. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, cereal, nutty), average hops (herbs, grass), light yeast (dough) and notes of butter, honey, vanilla. Average duration, heavy sweetness, moderate acidity and light bitterness. Medium bodied, mineral texture, fizzy and astringent. bhensonb (4274), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 11, 2006 From the legendary Ledger’s Liquors in Berkeley. Bottled 06.04.?? Aroma of dark fruit, a bit of malt, and perhaps a bit of yeast. Not getting hop; perhaps the fruit obscures it for me. Dark apricot color, with a nonpersistent white head. Starts with a sweet plumminess, then an exquisite balance of complex hop. And it stays that way. This is really good. The flavor develops a bit as one progresses through the bottle. hopscotch (5483), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 8, 2006 Bottle... TITW Part Deux... Clear amber beer with a small, fizzy, off-white head. The aroma is toasty and nutty with notes of tropical fruit and toffee. Sweet, boozy flavor with medium alcohol and hop bitterness. Medium to full-bodied and oily with slight carbonation. Lengthy, bitter finish. A shout goes out to whkingery for sharing his bottle with everyone! TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Nov 7, 2006 Enjoyed a sample of this beer at Tasting in the Woods, Part Deux. Altbier is one of my all time favorite beer styles, and Uerige has set the bar very high when it comes to alt, and its bigger, brawnier, brother, sticke. Leave to Uerige to go even higher with the first ever "doppel sticke" which is an even bigger version of sticke. This beer pours to a beautiful, bright, deep copper color, with a thick, creamy, white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is fantastic, with lots of big, pungent, spicy/herbal hop aromas, and some toasty nutty malt aroma. The palate is slick on the tongue, with really great, toasty/nutty malt, paired with some nice fruity notes, on a smooth, and clean body. Doppel Sticke finishes with those great malt flavors up front, then ends with a zesty herbal burst of hop bitterness that lingers. A super charged up version of altbier, I loved this one. Like with altbier, and regular sticke, Uerige has brewed up another bench mark example of a beer style. World class beer.
