The aroma is toasty and nutty with notes of tropical fruit and toffee. Sweet, boozy flavor with medium alcohol and hop bitterness. Medium to full-bodied and oily with slight carbonation. Lengthy, bitter finish. A shout goes out to whkingery for sharing his bottle with everyone! TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA

Altbier is one of my all time favorite beer styles, and Uerige has set the bar very high when it comes to alt, and its bigger, brawnier, brother, sticke. Leave to Uerige to go even higher with the first ever "doppel sticke" which is an even bigger version of sticke. This beer pours to a beautiful, bright, deep copper color, with a thick, creamy, white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is fantastic, with lots of big, pungent, spicy/herbal hop aromas, and some toasty nutty malt aroma. The palate is slick on the tongue, with really great, toasty/nutty malt, paired with some nice fruity notes, on a smooth, and clean body. Doppel Sticke finishes with those great malt flavors up front, then ends with a zesty herbal burst of hop bitterness that lingers. A super charged up version of altbier, I loved this one. Like with altbier, and regular sticke, Uerige has brewed up another bench mark example of a beer style. World class beer. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Aromas of toasted malts, caramel, and yeast with a little dark fruit. Flavor is rich and malty, caramel, toasted malts, a little chocolate, raisin, and some dark fruits. Smooth soft palate with ample body and light carbonation. Nice brew.. Enjoyed it.. DrBayern (1137), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 30, 2006 Updated: Apr 29, 2008Bottle pours a a deep coppery brown and develops a creamy large tan head that proves durable with excellent lace production. There was still 1/8" of foam approaching the bottom of the glass 20 minutes later. Spicy and floral hop aromas are quite dominant over a background of lightly smoky roasted malt and burnt sugar. I’m not used to smelling hops like this in a German beer. This is very rich tasting with a medium/full body, light carb0nation, and a bit of oiliness.Nicely balanced flavor with some thick malty sweetness and peppery hop bitterness that leaves a nicely dry finish. This beer was a total surprise to me, and very pleasant one indeed. Silphium (2137), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2006 Murky brown body, thick cream head. Complex, inviting aroma of toast, caramels, breads, and spice, even hints of raisin. Strongly toasty body with leafy hops (tea leaves) and dark fruits (prune), light sweetness, and alcohol. Complex but the individual elements make a subtle presence. Very nice. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 15, 2006 Courtesy of a fine Mystery beer Swap participant...I think twas jjpm74. Lovely concentrated fruit malt aroma has some mild citrusy tingle in the nose and features fruitcake, baked pineapple sweetbread, bannana nut bread and some toned down caramel accents. Very lovely aroma highligted by the wonderfully malt complimentary pineapple notes. The body of the beer is a ruddy, dusky brown and holds creamy tan head that is about the thickness of a standard Bic pen. The fore is a rich and sweet (low-spice) fruitcake. Baked Pineapple accents here as well. More caramel flavor than aroma...rich sweet and malty with caramel through the middle. The finish is strongly sweet, but well balanced with a firm bitterness. this is one of those beers I always new I’d try, but never got around to and now feel silly for having waited so long. Very nice. marcus (1874), Sacramento, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 9, 2006 This dark brown ale poured with a lacy tan head, eliciting a strong malty aroma. This is a full-bodied beer with a delicious caramel malt flavor expertly blended with a plethora of hop tastes. It starts out slightly sweet, then a piney taste, followed by a long pleasant hoppy bitterness. This beer is very well-crafted and is a pleasure to drink. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 2, 2006 Bronzed brown. Slim but sustaining creamy beige cap. Sheeting lace coats the glass with a wondeful filming of tiny patterned bubbles.
Aroma is of a slight toasted nuttyness, slight caramel bread rolls, and a splash of vanilla. Not all the impressive on the nose really, but...
Whoa, holy crap! This is one tasty treat. Bold, rich, and invigoratingly thick. Soft, yielding front of caramel malts. Breadyness and dull molasses, plummy tang insues from there, building, and building, and oh my what a great finish. Warm sherry notes blend into the backgound of a solid base of caramel. Barleywine-esk in character along the finish. Warm, thick, chewy, and lengthy. Hops add some depth with a leafy semi bittering pineyness surrounded by the caramel warmth. Quite nice.
Feel is based in malty richness. Smoothly rounded and warming with one firm thick/medium body thats forever giving into the finish with a wonderful warmth of caramel chewy stuff.
A very nice surprise. I was hoping for an equal exchange of goodness for the $5.29 per 11.2 oz bottle price tag. And got it. A special beer for a special price. And worth getting.
