Commercial Description:
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

This flippy top bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy with a frothy top fine to medium sized bubbles that was mostly lasting and left behind a semi-transparent brown colored body with caramel brown colored edges and an opaque center and a good lacing. The weak aroma was malty sweet and bready. The mouth feel was tingly and vinous at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of sweet caramel malt and mildly vinous alcohol. It had a good vinous bock like flavor that was in a class of its own! Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

My favorite Uerige brew! Abit on the heavy side for an altbier, this is what I liked. Malty flavorness to this one, but not overly sweet, hopped well enough, hops come out twords the end, and linger on the tongue, not the sweetness. Damn good brew!

Bottle: Dark copperish brown with a solid foam head. Thick brown sugary aroma. Starkly tartness hits first, with a caramel undertow. Surprisingly thin-bodied, I thought, for such a robustly flavored beer.

Bottle: Dark brown pour with a small white head, that quickly receded to just a film across the beer. Aroma, rich carmelly malts, some fruity notes. Flavor, caramel, dry, an interesting yeasty flavor, with an unusual (to me) hop flavor. Quite tasty.

(05.29.06) 11.2 oz brown bottle from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. 8.5% ABV. Bottled 06.04. Code 0506. Poured clear reddish amber with small white head. Soft carbonation. Light malty aroma. Medium bodied ale that starts dryish with light malt and caramel flavors. Finished dry with notable hop bitterness. This is a good drinkable hoppy beer.

Oh my!! Pours a deep clear amber. Nice head that fades rather quickly. A wonderful malty aroma and beautiful lacing. The bottle itself is just kick ass. A nice one for the collection.

A very malt-driven alt. Notes of grassy hops in the aroma and similar bitterness in the flavor are complemented by a very pure sweetness, reminiscent of an aged english barleywine. Molasses and beats and pure sugar cane in the nose. I haven’t had it in a while, but as I remember, this is very different than the regular Sticke.

11.2 oz bottle into a Dopplebock glass. Pours a light amber brown with a tree barkish color that is see-through. Very small white head that hugs the immediately. Aroma is heavy of carmalized malt, hints of alcohol, plums, and other fruit. Smells a lot like a barleywine. Flavor brings to the palate much of the nose, but on a lighter level. Tastes of sweet malt, plum, maple syrup, and tiny notes of citrus and hops. Has a very light barleywine style taste to it. Does not linger all that long. Definitely something I would drink many times again.
