Not as enjoyable as the others i have had from this brewery. The alcohol was burning me a bit in the nose, in the taste. Smooth mouthfeel, nice appearance in the glass but sourish which some like. Yes there is chocolate malt, which gave bitterness.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 11, 2006 Pours a murky brown with a little wisp of a head. The scent is very vinuous. Sticky sweet when it hits your lips. Tastes of dark grapes and bread. Some smooth bitterness in the end. I couldn’t believe this is 8.5% alcohol. Fantomas23 (463), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 11, 2006 Compared/contrasted this one with the Ueriges Sticke. Slightly darker with a creamy head. I was struck by the aroma . . . It reminded me of something sweet, a candy from my childhood. I whiffed it again and again and gave it to my wife, explaining my inability to label the aroma. She said, "Candy Circus Peanuts." Bingo! She professes to hating those things but liked this brew nonetheless. I liked it too. Overall, heartier and sweeter than the Sticke and my preference of the two. GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 10, 2006 Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo - thanks for blankboy for picking this one up for me. Very nice dark orange-amber colour with a medium sized dark cream head. Aroma is very sweet and warm, lots of caramel, malt, orange & dark fruit - really great! Full mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Excellent flavour - sweet off the top, with brown sugar and caramel, moving into some roast and a hint of chocolate, and a well-balanced hoppy finish with faint citric notes. I can see why they call this a "German barley wine" - it definately reminded me of some of the better examples of that style. Fantastic stuff - I need to get me some more of this! jimhilt (1693), Bow, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2006 Pours a three-fingered pillowy, cream head that goes slowly and leaves a good lace. Nearly clear amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is light hops. Starts with the hops and malts nearly balanced - some sweetness. Finish has some hops. Good Alt. Expensive - $4.99 for a 330ml bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 6, 2006 Dark copper body with a reasonable sized head. Aroma is grass, bread, and caramel. The first sip was bad, a boatload of alcohol. After that it got better but the 8.5% was always bothering me. It even came off a little watery at that. Flavor is all of the above with some sugary notes. Didn’t care for this at all. omhper (12299), Stockholm, Sweden
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 6, 2006 Bottled. Hazy copper colour. Grassy aroma. A very powerful beer with thick mouthfeel. Plenty of malt sweetness and obvious notes of licorice. Much more barley wine character than altbier character, and with all the warming qualities of a barley wine. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 4, 2006 Bottle. Small, fizzy ivory head, transparent, carbonated, and dark copper hue. Aroma was sweet, malty, caramel, and hoppy. Flavor ws sweet, malty, caramel and vinuous. Absolutely delectable! Mouthfeel was smooth, thin and dry. Worthy of a try IMO and one that I want to get more of.
