Commercial Description:
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Swingtop bottle. Deep chestnut colored beer, ruby highlights, and a larger tan head that lasted for ages. Great malty aroma, tea like, caramel, darker fruit, Flavor is dominated by the malts and thats not a bad thing at all. Plummy, with some molasses, dough, and some light bitterness on the end. Medium to full bodied and you’d never know this was 8.5%. Solid beer, I’ll drink again for sure.

Poured a plummy brown colour with a short head. Sweet and raisiny aroma with a disappointing hint of wet dog. Great creamy mouthfeel and full body. Lots of dried fruit on the tongue and natural sugars. Some pine needly hoppiness. Falls away a bit in the finish. (Bottle, RateBeer Sydney Xmas gathering 2005)

Dark, reddish brown. Very crisp, piney, Christmas tree nose with some sweet caramel and some bready, melanoidy notes. Quite sweet flavor with some citric and piney hints, balanced bitterness. Good, but I think I prefer the regular Sticke--this tastes thoroughly Americanized, a ploy for the distributors and gravity heads over here.

Dark Brown Coloring with Sandy Head. Rich Sweet Carmamel Malt Aroma. Bread Dough, Rich Malt Taste. Reminiscent of a Dubbel, But Much More Syrapy....Mouthfeel is Thinner Then Expected...Still a Wonderfully Rich Caramel, Roasted Malt Flavor. Not a Beer to Turn Down.

Clear amber color out of the bottle with a nice off-white head. Burnt sugar sweetness in the nose. Very fruity beer. My initial impression was chocolate covered cherries and plums with some burnt caramel. The finish has some orange rind bitterness. Relatively light on the tongue. Very nice beer. I think this was part of my Secret Santa in July box that I have been coveting until now.

Abject thanks for this rare gem to pivo and Yogi
Deep chestnut, clear beer; amber-beige firm head. Very malty, bread & molasses, overripe banana, faint brandy nose. Fruity taste, grapes, tons of malt, with a bitterish peak, partly hops (but this is not a hoppy beer like dat leckere Droppke is). Again sweetish brandy but the hops/coloured malts take over any time. Flavours of green velvety leaves (vineleaf?) and bready flavours, bread soaked in a sweet brandy with brambles, copper, vinous. Very full bodied, a bit burning MF, very slick. Disconcerting, even the "usual" Sticke is very different. I’m not sure I really like this - well, I do, but I still chose the draught Alt at the tavern anytime.

This is not an Altbier anymore. Disconstructing styles, I know. But the name of this thing exists. It is known as old ale . Which means more or less the same as Alt, but the requirements fit better...
