Commercial Description:
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Murky muddy chestnut brown. Roasted malt, baking chocolate aroma. Some fig and strawberry. Maltball, caramel, and more bitter chocolate together in harmony and a bit of intensity. There’s no punch in the mouth, but a quick warming in my chest.

Dark opaque chocolate brown with no head (maybe to cold.) Nice lacing. Smells like a malt bomb, very sweet, milk chocolate, overripe fruit, raisin. My first impression is that it’s bad and must have been mishandled. Very sharp on the tongue, bitter acrid bite covers everything else and lasts on the top og the tongue. A little bit of sweetness and raisin tries to peek through. As it warms, it loses some of the edge off the bite, but still has an overwhelming leafy/woodsy bitterness. As it warms some more, a dark chocolate and raisin flavor, along with a dark roasted malt compete with the bitter edge. More alcohol becomes evident on the nose and the palate. Aftertaste is still sharp.

Pours cloudy dark brown with tan head. Big, sweet, thick malty aroma with dark fruits, molasses, cherries. Very sweet. Big malty flavor with some cherry and dark fruits. Modedrately bitter finish. Thick, chewy mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. Very nice.

11.2 oz. bottle served in a Kolsch. Cola in color without the carbonation and a fluffy light tan head that fills 2/3 of the glass on the pour. Heavily malted, and raisiny (barleywine-style) on the nose. The palate... Wow! Big! Weighty body, thick, slick, and richly flavored. Dark fruits, molasses, and brown sugar. Long, oily, slightly bitter, malty finish. I will be having this again!

12oz bottle courtesy of Kevin. I been dyin to try this one. I was stunned to see this was a altbier. I figured it was a doppelbock. It doesn’t taste like most doppelbocks but its more like a doppel than an altbier imo. Pours a dark brown thats rather clear. Decent sized light chocolate head. Aroma was very malty with some raisins and caramel. Flavor was almost like an english barleywine. Super smooth with alot of sweet caramel, a decent bit of smoke and some spiced raisin bread. Finishes with just enough hops to keep things balanced. This is very very good.
