Commercial Description:
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

poures a dark mahogany brown with a thick off white head.. Coffee and sweet dark roast in the aroma, toffee and caramel as well. Slight anise/liqorice in the flavour backed by raisin fruit and dark roast body. Slightly sticky alc. finish. Very good.

Cask at Redlight. I missed the beeruption, but saw the devastating effects. Dark brown pour with a white head. Very sweet caramel malts. Almost a sweet berry flavor. Not bad.

On cask at Redlight. After taking a shower in this beer due to the extreme pressure exploding from the cask, causing a geyser rivaling Old Faithful, I sucked some of the sticky and sweet goodness from my arms to come up with this review. Thanks to Redlight for giving me a story for years to come. My first beer shower. Color is dark amber with a thick foam white head. Taste is sweet brown sugar and a slight bitterness. Good beer, but I do not advise bathing in it. It is very sticky.

Had on a gravity keg at Redlight Redlight. Poured a golden amber color, thick head. Flavor was sticky pine, just a hint of orange sweetness, but mostly hoppy. Not a huge fan.

(10/16/08) Bottle at friends’ house in Philadelphia. Hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of lots of malt and caramel, a bit of cookies, a bit of alcohol and some vinous fruity notes. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, some dark fruits (plums notes, some grapes) and a bitter dry finish with some slightly herbal hops, a light citric touch and a bit of alcohol. Medium to full-bodied. Really interesting stuff. I like it.

Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: This Altbier is a pale amber-orange color with a medium and creamy beige head that recedes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Malty aroma with notes of dark fruit and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of malt, molasses and hops. Warming alcohol is evident at times. The finish is full and malty with a bittersweet malt and hops aftertaste. Another enjoyable Alt from this brewer.
