tipsytoad (83), Jersey Feb 12, 2007 Draft. Beautiful and complex ’sticky’ alt. Rich, dark fruits dominate witha hint of liquorice. The slightly bitter finish is smooth and moreish. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Feb 7, 2007 Very sweet aroma.Pours a dark copper with a medium off white head.Musty malt flavor.Medium mouthfeel with a malt finish. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Feb 6, 2007 ’01 Vintage. Brown sugar and vinuous aroma. Deep copper appearance with a full palate. Light malt flavors with some dust. Probably past its prime for a few years. Need to re-rate after sampling a fresher batch. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 3, 2007 Poured into a tall, straight sided Gosser glass, the beer is a clear reddish copper color, with about an inch of creamy colored foam. Surprisingly effervescent, but the head dies down in short order to a thin cap. No lacing. Nice clean malt in the aroma, with just a touch of a canned peach scent in the aroma.
A bold, crisp, clean and almost toffee-like maltiness gives way to a subtle floral/spicy hop finish. Still rather prominent in the carbonation, but without a bite from the fizz. Great classic German flavor. The flavor did not hold up when paired with a bold Glouchester cheese, however. Then again, an English/German dynamic is sometimes better avoided. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 29, 2007 Clear amber pour with a thin offwhite head. Nice aroma of bread, fruits and spices. The flavor is very pleasant with it’s bread, spices and fruits, it finishes slightly tart and slightly bitter. The body is medium with an oily texture and moderate carbonation. Nicely done. RedHaze (370), Where the hell am I?, Nebraska, USA Jan 14, 2007 Pours a slightly hazy ruddy brown with a one finger head that reced to a thin ring, leaving behind moderate lacing.
Smell; a litlle had to pick anything out at first, but after it warmed a bit some the aromas came out. A little nutty with some figs and sweet berries. There’s also a bit of floral hops.
Taste; mmm..lots of malts, caramel and molasses. Dried figs, and cherries, walnuts and some allspice. There’s just a bit of a hop bitterness towards the end to balance it out a bit. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and so easy to drink. It’s almost gone and I feel like I just started drinking it.
grease (42), Reno, Nevada, USA Dec 30, 2006 This is the second occasion that I have had Zum Uerige Sticke in the bottle. Both were imported to the US. In fact, my beer was dated 10.25 meaning that it was a 2005 bottle. Bloody shame!Needless to say, this beer does not seem to hold up very well in the bottle, especially after one year. The aroma had pronounced notes of prune that must have been from oxidation. The malt presence was considerable as was the hop flavor and bitterness. The balance of the clean flavors begs this to be sampled from its birthplace. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Dec 26, 2006 Bottle from my secret santa. Thanks! Pours a dark golden brown with a small white head. Aromas of honey and sweet malts, with some dark fruit notes in there. Taste is bitter and sweet, with generous earthy and bready notes. Doesnt leave an offensive taste on the palate, but it doesnt really excite me either. A well done beer for what it is, but still not my favorite thing to consume. Easy drinking.
