jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA Aug 14, 2006 Pours red with a very small white head. Toasted malt and brown sugar aroma, with a touch of almonds. The toasted malt is found in the flavor behind some diacetyl. A light herbal hoppiness rounds out the taste. Good stuff. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Aug 6, 2006 A sweet toasted malt aroma, with a small amount of herbal hops in their too. Flavor is reminiscent of those butterscotch candies, some honey roasted nuttiness, and a bit of brown sugar, but not overly syrupy and complex, just a really smoothed out even flavor. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Jul 26, 2006 Pours dark brown with a reddish tine. It has a tan rocky head that leaves quickly. Aroma is sweet and rich malt mixed with dark brown sugar. Starts out with a roasty rich toffee feel. It is rich and lighty syrupy. Finish is lightly spicy with a touch of sourness and anise. Very well done alt. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jul 24, 2006 Bottle thanks to Willblake at the NYRBG. Clear, light brown color with a small beige head. Aroma is mildly sweet malts, buttery toffee and some nuttiness. Flavor is buttery, sweet malts, nuts and a hint of hops in the background. Very creamy mouthfeel. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 24, 2006 Updated: Jun 29, 2008Rerate. Bottled on 02.11. Code 12 02. Clear amber orange with a 1 1/2 finger off-white head, great retention. Aroma has some spicy citrus--not necessarily Pac NW hops--up front with lots of sweet toffee and caramel malts. A bit earthy and dry. The flavor adds a bit of a buttery caramel note and a bit of sulfurous skunkyness. Earthy dry finish (redundant?) with bitterness that peaked around a 4. Light to moderate carbonation with a medium body. Very nice beer, overall. Old rating follows. 11.2oz., Bottled on 25.11. Pours a clear copper brown with a moderate, very light beige head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, grain, a little grass. Hops make a bigger showing in the taste up front with a fair amount of bitterness. Creamy, medium body with soft carbonation. Very nice alt--I’m looking forward to their other two alt’s. 7-3-7-4-14--3.5 Gr0ve (1382), Oslo, Norway Jul 16, 2006 330 ml bottle. Amber coloured with a grayish note to it. No head. Subdued barleywine-like aroma. Musty apple and caramel. Pear syrup and a little vanilla. Noble hops are clearly being used as it infuses the beer with a very gentle, but noticeable, hop flavour. Medium-bodied, and not at all sweet. It’s quite dry actually, with a well done hop bitter finish. larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Jul 15, 2006 No head. Light brownish red body with some haziness. Sweet powerfully floral malty aroma with cinnamon and caramel notes, slightly earthy. Sweet roasty licorice taste with some cinnamon. Very fruity. Intense cinnamon aftertaste. Incredibly delicate and well balanced. Not too powerful, but much better for it. Excellent! Really something special. (0.33l bottle.) jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Jul 9, 2006 Pours deep clear bronze with a thick, off-white head. Bread, caramel and grassy hops in the nose. Nice foundation of heavy caramel, toffee, then comes a little pear followed by a prominent noble hop presence. Bitter hop finish which lingers for awhile. Bold and flavorful. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and subtle carbonation. Overall, pretty enjoyable.
