oteyj (715), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Aug 30, 2009 Dark brown pour with a half finger beige head. Bottle was a bit of a gusher. Aroma is grainy with some light fruity esters and a nutty note. Flavor is roasty malt grain, light nectar fruit, and ogeat. Dry and fruity. Palate is medium with a semi-dry, sweet and coating finish that lingers with sweet nutty malted barley. Pretty unique and delicious. satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Aug 19, 2009 bottled 10/08, rated 08/09. swingtop to shaker pint. aroma is dark almost smoky caramel. very nice head sits atop very cloudy amber, nearly brown, beer. flavor is of yeast and malty caramel, but without displaying much sweetness. a bit grainy in the finish. in the war of kolschs against alts, im an alt-man all the way, and this beer is one example. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 1, 2009 bottle via trade with koelschstrinker, dark brown with lasting tan head, nice aroma of fruity , malt and caramel, flavor is excellent bitter fruit, old wine, woody with lasting finish alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Jul 27, 2009 Bottle; poured a dirty, muddy, murky, brown color with a big head. Took forever to finish the pour. Nice looking. Aroma of toasted bread, caramel, with some earth, fruit and yeast. Flavor had a much more pronounced herb and spice presence; the hops shine through nicely to compliment a rich caramel and bready presence. Palate was very nice, with a touch of softness. Really nice version of the style. yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jul 18, 2009 33 cL bottle, from Pizza Port Carlsbad bottleshop. Pours cloudy dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is mild spiced and roasted malt. Flat malty flavoured with a light bitterness coming through. Light roasted and mild acidic flavoured finish. tarheels86 (703), Washington DC, USA Jul 10, 2009 330 mL sweet flip-top bottle. Poured a deep, muddy brown with an enormous four-finger, tan, rocky head probably due to a little bottle refermentation. Little yeast particulates in the glass. Leaves some excellent lacing. Aroma is dried Saaz hops, herbal hops, caramel, black peppercorn, caramel, pumpernickel bread. Taste is earthy, caramel malt with some pepper and with a large presence of bittering hops leaving some pine resin notes. Finishes with some fruity esters. Would be the ultimate session beer were it cheaper. Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 10, 2009 Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of metal and honey. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, honey, and metal, leading to a bitter finish. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jun 26, 2009 Bottle, Wurstkuche. Pours amber-brown with a large white head. Aroma is very grassy and herbal, suggesting significant European hops (Saaz, Hallertau) in this brew. Flavor starts with herbs and earthiness upfront, moving nimbly towards a balanced mid-body of malt and dry bitterness. Finish leans dry and semisweet. A solid altbier.
