Commercial Description:
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Wow- this is not what I expected. I kinda thought the sticke was going to be a lot more malty than thier regular alt. Not the case- as this one was really really hoppy. Nice deep deep copper with a minimal off white head. Aroma is actually more towards a very earthy and herbal noble hop aroma than towards malt. Flavors are nicely balanced between a full munich malt flavor and a nice dry herbal hoppy flavor. Finishes moderately bitter as well. Really nicely done, but for me I’d rather have the original.

The beer evacuates the 330ml brown swing-top bottle a somewhat hazy copper with a moderate size frothy light tan head that dissipated quickly leaving a thin coating of lace to conceal the glass. Nose is a mix of sweet malt, and hints of hops, fresh and crisp, nut-like, start is nicely malted, light at the top. Finish is moderately carbonated with the hops pleasantly spicy, extremely dry and somewhat sour aftertaste, lingers long upon the palate, a drinkable beer, but I much prefer the Dopplesticke.

Small offwhite head, fair retention and a goodly amount of stringy, spotty lace. Clear, chestnut appearence. Nose of medium sweet malts, grainy. Body is medium with a slight astringency. Dry maltiness on the palate with a hint of berries, faint metallic notes, light roast and tobacco notes. Finish is dry with that damn astringency showing up again.

Bottled on 31.01. Am I to assume that is 2005? Poured into my Fankenheim Alt glass. Crystal clear copper/brown with a dirty white cap. Toasted whole grain breads and caramel. Nice scent of Spalt hops. Malt sweetness and hop bitterness it very good. Full bodied.

Delicious. Dark red body with creamy, almost mousse-like head. Bitter but well balanced with an earthy malt flavor. Primo, man.

LIght hop aroma and copper in color. Large airy head on initial pour but, quickly fades away. Not much malt taste but hop bitterness is clearly present. Has a nice clean finish.

Clear, dark copper body with a grayish, tight silky head. Nice deep maltiness with aromas of toffee, caramelization and ginger bread. Deep earthy hops and notes of oak. Malt and hop combination gives the impression of an earthy single malt scotch. Fairly sweet but firmly bitter and well-balanced. This is really nice and a personal epiphany for the style. I’d be happy to drink this regularly.

Had this one bottled. Medium reddish color, somewhat effervescent, very little head, quite hoppy and bitter with notes of orange, lemon and banana, fading quickly into a nutty taste at the back of the palate.
