Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA May 31, 2005 Red-orange with a small head. Earthy & herbaceous hops in the nose, with hints of wet cardboard, medicine, cherries, black licorice and mild biscuit. Initially watery and light palate, until things catch up on the mid, blasting off with caramel and tofee flavors, which linger with hints of biscuits, dough, potato skins and fruits. Fairly thin body. Not that flavorful. I hope this isn’t the best Alt in the world. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 21, 2005 Very drinkable, but in gulps owing to signfiicant carbonation. Good hop aroma, colour. Tasty spice and good bitterness. Nutty toasty and fruit worked nice. Somewhat dry and malty finish. This was a hard beer to track down and must have again. Thanks ClarkVV. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Apr 20, 2005 Poured into a standard alt glass from the bottle. Pours brown with a small tan head. Taste and aroma are earthy and spicey. Not bad. snowtiger (106), Brighton, Colorado, USA Apr 14, 2005 Bottle. Cool one at that. Pours a dark amber/brown color with small off-white head. Aroma is bready, malty, and clean. No hop aroma as I would expect. The flavor is strongly malty with a subdued bitterness. Finishes slightly dry. A very nice treat. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA Apr 11, 2005 Goblet with a really cool looking long neck. Pours a nice dark amber with a small off white head which turns into a ring around the glass. Aroma is malty with bread, caramel, cookie and a touch of bacon. The cookie is present in the mouthfeel along with butterscotch. This is really interesting stuff which I will certainly try again. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Apr 10, 2005 33 cl brown, super longneck bottle with swing top and ceramic cap. Bottled on 1/31/05. Poured out a distressed leather color, with a minimal white, foamy head.
Left a smattering of lacing down the sides of the glass. Aromas are of lactic wheat malts, slight smokiness, sweet caramels, dusty barn, well worn saddle leather. Flavors are of strong malts, some smoke, sweet background malts as well. No hop aromas, but an earthy hop bitterness to it. Medium mouthfeel, dry, somewhat tannic finish. Decent beer overall. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Apr 1, 2005 Bottle, goblet. Dough, cookie, nutty, bread. Solid German caramel malt base. Dry, floral hops. Very balanced, very pleasant. Intense amber hue with copper highlights. Smallish, white, foamy head. Moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter flavor becomes a moderately acidic, moderately bitter finish. Finishes spicy and dry. Medium body, smoothg texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: just incredibly drinkable. Almost exactly what I’ve been expecting from this style and never found before. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA Apr 1, 2005 Brown Coloring with White Skin. Sweet Malt Aroma.. Good Malt Taste..Light Roasts...Rich With a Dry Aftertaste...Agreeably Something Like Malt and Bacon Grease Mixed Together...
