Commercial Description:
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

The beer evacuates the 330ml brown swing-top bottle a somewhat hazy copper with a moderate size frothy light tan head that dissipated quickly leaving a thin coating of lace to conceal the glass. Nose is a mix of sweet malt, and hints of hops, fresh and crisp, nut-like, start is nicely malted, light at the top. Finish is moderately carbonated with the hops pleasantly spicy, extremely dry and somewhat sour aftertaste, lingers long upon the palate, a drinkable beer, but I much prefer the Dopplesticke.

Finally a gold nugget plucked from my d.b.a. jaunt in NYC. Yummy, yeasty, bitter-style aroma. Great embossed latch bottle and woody brown beer. Buttery, woody, a bit cereal. Very enjoyable. Medium long woody finish. Adequately bittered with lots of character.

Very hoppy though light aroma much like an APA, though with touches of eastern european hops. Pours burnt orange with nice though fizzy head. Taste doesn’t match up with APA so much as a pilsner in that it has nice hopping but a balanced hop backbone that is medium thickness though still assertive.

Bottle pours translucent amber, small white head, and decent lacing.   Bubblegum, banana nut bread, pears, and light smoke on the nose.   Flavor is bready, malty, and a bit nutty.   Seems rather average for an Alt.   Bottle dated 29.01, assuming its from this year.   Something is missing...

Appearance: Pours a clear mahogany body with a lasting, lace-inducing white head. Smell: Lovely aroma of toasted fresh bread with earthy hints of nuts, vanilla, and molasses. Plenty of those dark fruits, too. Taste: Upfront, there’s the flavors of dark, scorched caramel with a bit of chocolate. Sweetness remains light. There’s a flash of lemon juice midway which leads into an earthy bitterness with strong notes of wood that further builds into an exceedingly, and rather surprising dry finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Starts off with a great aroma, but the taste slips just a bit. Oh, and what an adorable looking bottle!

Nice malty essence. Spicy hops presence with dusty grain. Really nice altbier aroma, with a bit of smoke and broth. Simple and pure. Dark amber clear with creamy rocky off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Smooth drinking. Starts with nice maltiness, rich medium roast with caramelized sweetness. Bready and dusty with dry nutty-sweet finish. Nice hops bitterness with a bit of floral spicyness. After is dry and mildly nutty sweet. I could drink this every day.

Bottle date 31-01. Sweet fermented aroma. Cloudy brown with small head. Flavor is heavy dose of alcohol and sweet but mellows out conciderably by the finish with a carmelized crystalation of sorts. Sugary and sweet aftertaste and cool bottle. Good brew.
