Glass lacing is very nice also. Light malty caramel aroma along with a hint of some funk, the good kind. The flavor is roasted malt sweetness and bitterness, a good dose of hops followed by some maltiness. The hops are surprisingly strong but lead to an overall pleasing experience. he body is surprisingly light given the color and the overall level of flavor complexities. Very nice beer. marcus (1893), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 9, 2004 This dark amber altbier pours with very little head and elicits very little aroma. However, it is a fine example of the style, with a slightly bitter and very satisfying caramel malt flavor. If you ever get to Dusseldorf, stop by Zum Uerige and try their home-made sausage, which complements their beer very nicely. iowaherkeye (1869), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2006 Updated: Jun 29, 2008Rerate. Bottled on 02.11. Code 12 02. Clear amber orange with a 1 1/2 finger off-white head, great retention. Aroma has some spicy citrus--not necessarily Pac NW hops--up front with lots of sweet toffee and caramel malts. A bit earthy and dry. The flavor adds a bit of a buttery caramel note and a bit of sulfurous skunkyness. Earthy dry finish (redundant?) with bitterness that peaked around a 4. Light to moderate carbonation with a medium body. Very nice beer, overall. Old rating follows. 11.2oz., Bottled on 25.11. Pours a clear copper brown with a moderate, very light beige head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, grain, a little grass. Hops make a bigger showing in the taste up front with a fair amount of bitterness. Creamy, medium body with soft carbonation. Very nice alt--I’m looking forward to their other two alt’s. 7-3-7-4-14--3.5 DrnkMcDermott (1860), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

I’m spending my Super Bowl watching time enjoing this and <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/uerige-alt/7836/ Alt. Have to say, this may be a bit over-hyped. Pours a foamy head; more settled than the UAlt. The malts are a bit smoother, like this has gotten some good aging in, and the hops have mellowed out, too, with bitterness only showing up in the aftertaste. There is a definite feel of more alcohol than the regular UAlt. I had expected something roasty or smoky, but couldn’t really catch it. May be flatter, or just supposed to me more subtle and mellowed. nearbeer (1860), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Frosting all over the glass. Aroma of cocoa, plum, apple and earth-spiced molasses. Front flavors of raisin and apple coated in caramel, chocolate and some earthy spice. Slowly turns more roasty with cocoa, toasted nut and woody flavors that provide a nice bittersweet finish. Medium body is smooth, lightly tingly and finishes dry. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 31, 2005 Red-orange with a small head. Earthy & herbaceous hops in the nose, with hints of wet cardboard, medicine, cherries, black licorice and mild biscuit. Initially watery and light palate, until things catch up on the mid, blasting off with caramel and tofee flavors, which linger with hints of biscuits, dough, potato skins and fruits. Fairly thin body. Not that flavorful. I hope this isn’t the best Alt in the world. CharlesDarwin (1849), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2008 33cl Swingtop. Great fresh fruit and bread crust aroma. Lots of vineyard air, rich caramels, and toast. Pours a rather clouded sienna, with pale fringes and soap of off-white. Flavor highlights the caramelization process, but also immediately brings in good showings of pear brandy, almonds, light oxidation, and brilliant shining grassy hops. An interesting balance. Yeast works well here. A nice intermingling all around of all aspects. Great dry hop tooth over good caramel work and a nice yeast and alcohol signature. Dangerously drinkable and loaded with flavor. A fantastic beer. LinusStick (1848), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Beautiful brown pour with a 2 finger off white head. Aroma of malt. Taste of roasted malt, caramel and some hop in the finish. Perfectly carbonated and nice dry but satisfying finish.
