Interesting. It’s not real lively or hoppy or smokey but still plain, obvious and curious. lithy (1700), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 15, 2005 Pours a one-finger white head that quickly fades leaving no lace. Slightly cloudy amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose seems to be caramel. Starts and finishes with a balance of malts and hops but there is some sweetness hard to describe this - maybe a combination of a barley wine and a sweet stout for flavor, but it doesn’t look anything like a stout. $4 for a 330ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. sloth (1677), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 3, 2005 Small offwhite head, fair retention and a goodly amount of stringy, spotty lace. Clear, chestnut appearence. Nose of medium sweet malts, grainy. Body is medium with a slight astringency. Dry maltiness on the palate with a hint of berries, faint metallic notes, light roast and tobacco notes. Finish is dry with that damn astringency showing up again. Aroma is bready and fresh with some molasses in the nose. Flavor is like taking a big bite of fresh bread - some nice sweetness in there thats balanced well with a nice helping of hops. Good Alt! | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 30, 2008 Not only is the beer inside the bottle very good, the bottle itself is unique and very eyecatching. Shaped like a German handgrenade, the beer won’t blow up the taste buds with anything unusual, but it you will be happy that you took the time to drink this. An aroma of sweet caramel malts, earthy hops, slightly nutty, and a bit oxidized. A ruddy brown, hazy color with a 1-finger thick head. Caramel malts, grassy with just a touch of spices makes this one a drinker. Reminded me of a subdued English barleywine in some ways. Very tasty beer. I enjoyed this one much more than their Dopple Sticke.
