Commercial Description:
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

On tap @ Redlight. Cloudy opaque leather color with a thin, even, very light tan head. Light grainy aroma, slight nuttiness, slight earthy hops. Nice smooth taste - heavy, spicy malts.

Pours deep clear bronze with a thick, off-white head. Bread, caramel and grassy hops in the nose. Nice foundation of heavy caramel, toffee, then comes a little pear followed by a prominent noble hop presence. Bitter hop finish which lingers for awhile. Bold and flavorful. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and subtle carbonation. Overall, pretty enjoyable.

[Bottled on 27.10] Pours a murky dark amber with a with a small but thick creamy off-white frothy head. Grassy aroma with notes of oxidized malt. Grassy and earthy flavors, light chewy toasted crystal malt, faintly nutty, a bit of toffee. Unusually sweet in that its overall a dry beer. Medium body, sugary and a bit gritty, with soft fluffy carbonation. I like the doppel-sticke but I think this bottle is probably a bit past its prime.

Bottle from BOTW. I picked it up from the store the same week it arrived and it was already about 6 months after the bottling date. Bottled 10.08. The pour is a hazy amber with a white head of tight bubbles. Aroma is malty and spicy and a touch doughy. Flavors are a touch bitter and spicy. Definitely easy to drink, but not as special as I would have anticipated. Perhaps the age has dulled this one. It’s really a shame that we in states can’t get European beers faster.

500ml swing top bottle, 28th Feb 2008. Pours a dark amber with a line of head. The aroma is earthy and malty with a cheesy and yeasty character. Very malty at the start of the sip but then the subtle bitterness comes through. Quite fiery alcoholic warmth on the finish. Flavoursome but flawed.

This beer rocks! (Sorry, Hopscotch, and forget you, Powers!) That bottle over on the left is rather a cool vessel to package a brew. Pours a nice clear orange brown with a thin yet lasting tannish head. Aroma of peppery hops and new leather. This sucker has benifited from lagering, that is for sure. Smooth malt balanced with a big hop bitterness. What I love about this the most is the way the incredible smooth malt lingers right through the lingering hop bitterness aftertaste. From homebrewing with the White Labs Dusseldorf Alt yeast a few times, this beer has the distinctive alt flavor that you would look for and the smoothness of a lager. Rant rant rave rave. A must try!

Ruddy and husky hazen copper brown color, thin, fluffy, beige cap sits briefly, a firm collar remains and a whispy skim; minimal stringy lacing sticks. Aroma is rich with sweet yet yielding maltyness, honey, nuts, buttered toast, and dried wild flowers or grasses. Taste has some delicate nuances and subtleties, starts smooth and inviting with tame caramel and light toasty malts but gradually builds with nuts and grassy floral hop tones that are very mild on the bittering, but really nice to let unravel. Bits of whole grain toast make a nice appearance just past midway. Very lovely in that regards, real nice. Finishes with some sweeter candyish fruity malts mixing with the hop tones and toast and drys out very calmly. Super fine and yummy finish. Feel is quick to be smooth and long to finish with a well rounded medium body and texture thoughout. Favorable buttery and candied sweetness keeps some teriffic balance over the flowery, grassy hops. T’was gone in no time...need more soon.

draft at redlight redlight. Hoppy, piney nose with caramel malt notes. Pours a golden amber with a thick white head. Hoppy bitterness is the first flavor to assert itself. Rich caramelly malts come next, caramelized sugars, finishes with an almost lager-like bite, very crisp finish. Very enjoyable, and fresh tasting.
