Fantastic brew, fabulous bottle. ilovedarkbeer (1365), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2008 Pours a murky light brown color with a large creamy beige head. Nose is massive amounts of toffee and brown sugar. Taste is the same with some candied apples on the back end. Very malty and delicious with a moderate mouth feel that is drinkable and good. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 2, 2009 Bottle, John’s Grocery, Iowa City, Iowa. Very unusual yellow-rusty pour, small white layer of fine head. Mint, candied orange, blood, earth. Fine, salty/dry bitterness, with a woody, old fruitcake finish. Very refreshing, and I dig the dryness, but overall it feels a little bit dull. Maybe a fresher example would have more life. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2004 I picked this bottle up @ Rozi’s in Lakewood, OH for $3.99. Aroma had a floral bouquet and the entire bottle poured nicely into my Bitburger glass. Dark brown color and a hoppy flavor with hints of smoke and caramel. Alcohol was well hidden, I could taste yeast undertones. This beer lived up to it’s cost and its not just the bottle you are paying for. I am going to re-use the bottle for home brewing unless somebody has a way to make it into a bong. Thanks to bkelly68 for pointing it out to me. nickd717 (1348), Palo Alto, California, USA

Malty aroma with caramel and brown sugar. Flavor is lots of caramel malt, oak, very slight fruity notes, and mild hops. Smooth palate, medium-full body. Good for the style. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 10, 2008 Dark red with some bits in solution and a nice beige head. Quality German caramel malt and floral hop aroma with notes of brown bread and raisin. A little tart and a bit thin. The flavor is not as good as the aroma would suggest. It has noticeable hop flavor and bitterness. Not bad but I fear it has not traveled well. Darkover (1313), Columbus, Ohio, USA
