| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 1, 2004 Clear amber color with a rapidly diminishing head. The aroma is mostly hoppy and the flavor is likewise bitter and lightly hoppy. It is hard to see what makes this beer such a big dea., though maybe its the top beer in its style class. guzzler67 (1280), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 4, 2004 Served from a firkin. Attractive clear copper appearance. Restrained nose; a little on the fruity side. Smooth, malty taste with just enough of a hoppy bite to keep it interesting. Rich, warming finish; could have kept on drinking this all night. scrizzz (1280), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 28, 2008 billowing 4+ finger head suggests i poured it too quickly from the narrow extra long necked bottle. frothy foamy head rose tall out of the glass like an ice cream cone. clear caramel color. faintest aromas of grain and wood in the background, i was expecting more with the previous ratings. rich smooth clean malty base with a creeping of pleasantly balanced hops in the finish. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 18, 2004 Bottle. Beautiful noble hop aroma, touch of acetone (wtf?) but not distracting. I guess being an organic chemist has its privileges. Strong deep caramel malt flavor. Quite dry. Well balanced and very nice. jrob21 (1268), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2009 On tap at the brickstore. Pours a clean brown color with a big off white head that fades fast. Aromas of big malt, caramel, and bread. As it warms the texture of this thing gets really grainy and chewy malt. Pretty dry with a hint of bittering hops on the finish. The story here though is the malt and grain experience which is well worth the time and money on this one. wunderbier (1267), Tampere, Finland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 1, 2005 Bottle, goblet. Dough, cookie, nutty, bread. Solid German caramel malt base. Dry, floral hops. Very balanced, very pleasant. Intense amber hue with copper highlights. Smallish, white, foamy head. Moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter flavor becomes a moderately acidic, moderately bitter finish. Finishes spicy and dry. Medium body, smoothg texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: just incredibly drinkable. Almost exactly what I’ve been expecting from this style and never found before.
