Commercial Description:
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Pours amber with notes of malt. The palate shows a nice medium of malt and hops with a crisp interesting finish.

330 mL sweet flip-top bottle. Poured a deep, muddy brown with an enormous four-finger, tan, rocky head probably due to a little bottle refermentation. Little yeast particulates in the glass. Leaves some excellent lacing. Aroma is dried Saaz hops, herbal hops, caramel, black peppercorn, caramel, pumpernickel bread. Taste is earthy, caramel malt with some pepper and with a large presence of bittering hops leaving some pine resin notes. Finishes with some fruity esters. Would be the ultimate session beer were it cheaper.

Thanks to jcalabre for this taste. Clear brown, smallish head, sweet aroma. A bit thin, some sweetness, not much else except alcohol and it does not finish very well. Not very impressed.

Ok this beer taste like smokey water. I think there was a fire at the brewery, and this is the water they used to extinguish the fire. Not a good beer.

Small rubber stopped brown bottle purchased from Armanetti’s, Mundelein, IL. ABV 4.5%. Hazy brown hued having a small, white diminishing head with good lacing. No discernable aroma. Average carbonation. Medium bodied dry palette that starts with sharp bitter, alcoholic taste and finishes with moderate bitter of average duration. Slight bottle leakage when bottled stored on side but carbonation and flavor seemed fine. A good drinkable beer.

Dark brown pour with a half finger beige head. Bottle was a bit of a gusher. Aroma is grainy with some light fruity esters and a nutty note. Flavor is roasty malt grain, light nectar fruit, and ogeat. Dry and fruity. Palate is medium with a semi-dry, sweet and coating finish that lingers with sweet nutty malted barley. Pretty unique and delicious.

Bottle. Pours with an amber color and a huge head with excellent lacing. Yes the Germans know how to give head. In any case this is from my hometown so I am biased. It has a nice malty aromas and great flavors that evolve when the beer warms up a bit. Initial bitterness is replaced by a bit more sweetness, I can discern figs and almonds. Finishes off again with some bitter malts. Head and shoulders over the standard issue alt.

This is a ok Altbier. Caramel, malt, and sweet flavors. Finishes creamy, smooth, and chewy.
