off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium to dark brown. Aroma is
moderately malty (toasted bread, caramel, roasted nuts), lightly hoppy
(herbs, flowers), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of brown sugar,
raisin. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly
sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively
carbonation. Quite as-expected (i.e., like the regular Uerige alt, just
slightly bigger and richer). Hints at elements of doppelbocks and
Belgian brown ales. The higher malt content helps the finishing balance
compared to the standard alt. Very tasty, but falls short of exciting. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA

A small fine head tops the clear light maple body...thyme and hazelnuts vie with maple for prominence in the lovely, subtle nose...dry bitter herbs hit the front of the tongue, acidic nuttines reaches forward later and just a touch (just enough) brown sugary sweetness takes the edge off the dry bitterness at the finish. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic

Clear amber brown with white head that recedes to a thick ring. Nicely balanced. Quietly exciting flavour. Strong malt base subsumed with hops that traverse from flavouring to bittering - grassy, herbal, floral, with malt sweetness coming back in the finish. Mild tannins noticeable. Good light carbonation. Firmly medium body. Very enjoyable and a pretty bottle too. Enjoyed with MartinT and Rastacouere. Bottle. bhensonb (4271), Woodland, California, USA

Ruby apricot color with a beige head. A bit thin. Moderate carbonation. The flavor is gritty caramel, with some notes of coffee. The finish is fairly dry, and the bitter is noticeable, but not heavy. Intriguing. BBB63 (4229), La Porte, Indiana, USA

The aroma hints of aggressive bitter and noble hops, spicy white wine, toasted caramel malts, and leathery yeast esters. A sharp hoppy taste with a buttery malt undertone. The mouthfeel is so smooth, very nice. Glad we made the trip for this outstanding bier, among the finish in it's genre. goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 5, 2007 Bottle shared with brewfiend at Cellars WIne & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a slightly cloudy copper brown with a thick and lumpy off-white head. Very nice lacing. Aromas of sweet malt, walnuts, some earth tones, caramel and a whiff of vanilla. Taste is smooth, lightly sweet with a bitter finish. The aftertaste reveals some citrus and pine grind. Those Germans know how to make excellent beer.
