Commercial Description:
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Strong floral aroma upon opening the bottle. Floral taste follows through into a hoppy astrigent flavor. Deep rich amber color with thin white lacing on the glass.

11.2 fl oz swing top bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas City, Missouri. Bottled on 10.08 code 09.09. Opens with a pop. Pour is hazed orange copper brown with a lasting three inch creamy off white head. Head falls eventually with thick foamy lacing. Aroma of fresh grass, herbal hay and slight lemon citrus element. Under that is an almost minty grain element. The freshness of the nose really surprised me; given the age of this bottle(perhaps I am just misreading the bottled on, perhaps this is August 10th, not October 2008) I was expecting something a bit duller. Taste is clean grain biscuit sweet malt up front, followed quickly by the grass hay herbal and citrus of the nose. The finish has some nice yeast character to it, showing some clove and spice. Palate is medium, with active carbonation. Really satisfying and easy to drink.

On draught. Cloudy brown pour with a medium frothy off white head. Aroma of malt, caramel and smoke. Taste of bacon, yeast, malt and faint spices. Lasting slightly bitter smokey finish.

Pours a hazy brownish red ting with a big fluffy Uerige style head. The aroma is of coffee, milk chocolate, light caramel, and some herbal hops. The flavor is nicely hoppy (noble of course) with some mild but pleasant mineral character and a good roastiness. The beer is largely dry with little hints of caramel sweetness. I think I like this just slightly less than the regular alt, but I rated them the same so perhaps a side by side is warranted.

Bottle. Deep amber to brown. Perfumy, fruity aroma. Nuts and bananas. Belgian notes galore. Dry, sourish taste. Hints of apple. Not the most sharp and fresh beer aroud, but more like a mediocre hombrebrew. Probably not the freshest hops in this one.

Serving: 330 ml bottle. Appearance: Orange-brown with a large, rocky, off-white head. Great head retention. Aroma: A little fruity from the hops, nuts and grain notes from the malt. Fairly mild overall. Taste:Grainy with notes of caramel malt, light fruit notes, and perhaps a touch of wood. Palate: Medium carbonation with a light, dry mouthfeel and a medium-short finish. Overall: I was told this is pretty much a dead on alt. If so, I am a fan. I found this one to be quite drinkable and would definitely recommend giving it a go.
