Flavor is reminiscent of those butterscotch candies, some honey roasted nuttiness, and a bit of brown sugar, but not overly syrupy and complex, just a really smoothed out even flavor. dwyerpg (2537), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Faint aroma, pretty headless. Much lighter taste and pretty malty compared to the doppel. Haps come through only in the aftertaste. Cloudy amber color. A decent beer, but no match for the doppelsticke. Silphium (2137), Haslett, Michigan, USA

I enjoyed the Goetta, but the beer was the real treat. Poured from the tap a deep red-brown color with a thick, creamy tan head that left abundant lacing on the glass. Aroma is always difficult to detect in the bar setting, but caramel and toast were evident. The flavor was subtle yet rich and opened up as the beer warmed (it was quite cold at the beginning). Rich layers of caramel, toast, brown sugar and hints of fruit (a touch of grape, a hint of cherry) led to a surprisingly bitter earthy hops finish with metallic notes. As the beer warmed the sweet caramely malts and toast became more dominant. Very rich mouthfeel- this is one smooth beverage. Glad I made it to Steinkeller for the 8:00 tapping- the keg was empty at 8:29! Thanks Rick (clmojo) for the updates (and that glass of Kulmbacher)! JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Aroma is very herbal and earthy. Lots of noble, herbal/spicy hops. Flavour is also hoppy with fresh cut wood, herbs and a light mintiness. Lingering herbal bitterness. Undertones of earthy grainy malts. Really tasty. obisbeer (558), Barcelona, Spain

Rich mouthfeel with a sweet start and srying bitter finish. Rich malt flavor with cherry, hops, and vanilla. Really good, wow! tipsytoad (84), Jersey

Pours a nice dark amber with a small off white head which turns into a ring around the glass. Aroma is malty with bread, caramel, cookie and a touch of bacon. The cookie is present in the mouthfeel along with butterscotch. This is really interesting stuff which I will certainly try again. CharlesDarwin (1844), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA

Lots of vineyard air, rich caramels, and toast. Pours a rather clouded sienna, with pale fringes and soap of off-white. Flavor highlights the caramelization process, but also immediately brings in good showings of pear brandy, almonds, light oxidation, and brilliant shining grassy hops. An interesting balance. Yeast works well here. A nice intermingling all around of all aspects. Great dry hop tooth over good caramel work and a nice yeast and alcohol signature. Dangerously drinkable and loaded with flavor. A fantastic beer.
