Commercial Description:
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Clear crismon brown color with little to no head. Great fresh ligthly caramel and malty aroma with a noticeable pineapple component. Very wet mouthfeel. Flavor is lighter than expected. Of course, that is not to say it is not bitter, because it is, very bitter. The bitter flavor is crisp and lasting finishing with a moderate puff of german malt. Mix in some smooth and sweet maltiness and you have it. Interestingly, the first few ounzes I poured and drank were significantly "rougher" than the last 7 or so ounzes. In other words, the first sample from the bottle was not balanced, while the second sample was like two identical twins on a teeter-totter. Overall, a great altbier with some nice subtle surprises.

Hazy amber, off-white lacing creamy head. Herbs (juniper) and licorice in the aroma. Smotth blend of roast, mineral notes, and raw herbal hops. Full body, mellow sparkling mouthfeel. Subtle juniper and licorice aftertaste. Thanks to Dortmunder for this speciality!

Cloudy amber color, medium sized white head that had a decent hangtime then faded slowly to leave a bit of a lcae behind. The aroma was malty and nicely hoppy with a slight citrusy side to it.I have a cold so it’s hard to tell.malty caramel flavor with a nice hop presence and over all not bad at all.Fairly well balanced and smooth,i could go for a few more of these.

Bottle. Beautiful noble hop aroma, touch of acetone (wtf?) but not distracting. I guess being an organic chemist has its privileges. Strong deep caramel malt flavor. Quite dry. Well balanced and very nice.

Many thanks to FrankenBier for getting hold of this rare Alt bock for me. Bottle. Chestnut, thin but long lasting white head and a good fine natural condition. Almost an English ale in the nose with caramel, toffee and sweet malt and a delicate hoppiness. Good balance of butterscotch, banana and hop flavour in the mouth and a lingering long sweet caramel and hop bitter finish. This must be superb fresh from a wooden cask.

Slightly hazy copper body with a thick, fluffy off-white head that produces very interesting rocky formations. Malty aroma with whole grains, nuts, light, earthy hops, a little caramel (or is it toffee?) and a touch of vanilla. The body is hefty enough to handle the surprisingly big flavors. Nice, smooth and lightly sweet malt character is followed immediately by strong, bitter hops that show all sorts of greatness. Some pine character and a little citrus, but the largest piece is influenced by earthy, plant-like hops. Great flavor with a huge hop presence. While it does seem to be at it’s freshest, it’s still damn good. When fresh, this must be amazing.

Pours dark brown with a reddish tine. It has a tan rocky head that leaves quickly. Aroma is sweet and rich malt mixed with dark brown sugar. Starts out with a roasty rich toffee feel. It is rich and lighty syrupy. Finish is lightly spicy with a touch of sourness and anise. Very well done alt.

Minimal liight tannish head that dissipates quickly. Nice amber brown hue. Fruity and toffee is the aroma that stands out. Medium sweetness that is balanced nicely with medium bitterness. Full body with a nice creamy texture. Somewhat long bitterness in the finish.
