Aroma is bready and fresh with some molasses in the nose. Flavor is like taking a big bite of fresh bread - some nice sweetness in there thats balanced well with a nice helping of hops. Good Alt! alexanderj (2251), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 27, 2009 Bottle; poured a dirty, muddy, murky, brown color with a big head. Took forever to finish the pour. Nice looking. Aroma of toasted bread, caramel, with some earth, fruit and yeast. Flavor had a much more pronounced herb and spice presence; the hops shine through nicely to compliment a rich caramel and bready presence. Palate was very nice, with a touch of softness. Really nice version of the style. LinusStick (1844), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Beautiful brown pour with a 2 finger off white head. Aroma of malt. Taste of roasted malt, caramel and some hop in the finish. Perfectly carbonated and nice dry but satisfying finish. dkachur (2365), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Clear brown pour with a medium head and good lacing. Very strong grain aroma with a hint of bitterness. Big grain taste w/ dark fruit notes, nuttiness, and big bitterness. tmoreau (576), Lombard, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2009 On tap at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle, Il. Properly served in an altbier glass. Dark amber hue with a diminishing, white head and thick, solid lacing. The aroma had a touch of yeast, floral, and light fruit notes. The flavor also adds a nice malt and dryness combo. The mouthfeel is crisp and clean, with lively carbonation. noncaloric (612), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 10, 2009 Pours a murky brown with a large, active off-white heat, which simmers down to a lasting film of bubbles and a network of lace. Aroma is faint, what’s there is resinous nuts, a bit of caramel. Flavor begins with resinous malts and hops bitterness, a lot of nuts and tea here. Some frutiness accompanies the alcohol warmth later on, but the beer remains lightly bitter throughout, with the nuts remaining on the linger. Warm on the palate, very soft and sudsy. Good, but missing the caramel that makes the ordinary Uerige alt such a wonderful sessionable malt bomb. KyotoLefty (1416), Kyoto, Japan
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2009 Dark amber or medium brown, with a low head. Aroma of sherry, well aged, a bit of fruit, especially dark fruit, and hops. Very sherry-like flavor, with cherries, caramel, and good hops. Tastes oaky and well aged. Much like a British old ale. Very well hopped, with a dry finish of hops and sherry. Nice, but not as good as the regular that I had fresh. The sherry-like aged flavor and aroma are a little too much. A very interesting strong alt. quite different indeed from the regular one. Rich and nice. Ernest (4487), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 15, 2005 Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy,
off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium to dark brown. Aroma is
moderately malty (toasted bread, caramel, roasted nuts), lightly hoppy
(herbs, flowers), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of brown sugar,
raisin. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly
sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively
carbonation. Quite as-expected (i.e., like the regular Uerige alt, just
slightly bigger and richer). Hints at elements of doppelbocks and
Belgian brown ales. The higher malt content helps the finishing balance
compared to the standard alt. Very tasty, but falls short of exciting.
