Commercial Description:
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

33 cl bottle. A small fine head tops the clear light maple body...thyme and hazelnuts vie with maple for prominence in the lovely, subtle nose...dry bitter herbs hit the front of the tongue, acidic nuttines reaches forward later and just a touch (just enough) brown sugary sweetness takes the edge off the dry bitterness at the finish.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, caramel, roasted nuts), lightly hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of brown sugar, raisin. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Quite as-expected (i.e., like the regular Uerige alt, just slightly bigger and richer). Hints at elements of doppelbocks and Belgian brown ales. The higher malt content helps the finishing balance compared to the standard alt. Very tasty, but falls short of exciting.

Clear brown, white head, sweet molasses, slight bitter, watered down alcohol fuel with some more mollasess thing, molasses, and more molasses.

Pours a hazy light orange brown color with huge froathy billowing offwhite head. Aroma is earthy woodsy hops. Flavor is malty slightly bittersweet, earthy oaky hops, some doughiness, decently dry and hoppy bitter finish. Overall, complex yet simple beer, definitely worth a try.

Might be a case where the anticipation drowned out the the flavor. Defintiely thinner than I antcipated, with a metallic hop presence that I found a little off-putting. Still, I really enjoyed the way it sat in the mouth. This was overall a very interesting beer, but will never be favorite.

Medium beige head atop a clear copper body. Aroma is light sweet, caramel, light grassy/herbal. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some fruity, some alcohol evident, finishing herbal/earthy. Medium body. Very drinkable.

bottle-thanks whaleman for the recomendation! pours copper with a small soapy off-white head and sparse lacing. aromatically, this beer has alot of complexity for the style-carmel, cheeries, fresh cut wood, toasty maltness, some faint cinammon, and spice chracacter with some nice chocolate notes. nice body-full and slick. flavors are very malty, chocolate, light bitterness from some earthy hops. very nice and probably the best alt i have ever had!
