Commercial Description:
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Very cool bottle, to be considered in appearance. Reddish brown, malty appearance with a light fizz but not much head. Bready, German hops aroma, some caramel cookies, French Fries, and Coppertone suntan lotion. Long-lasting bitterness, though fairly well rounded. Moderate palate, smooth. Interesting; a style I don’t know well enough yet.

This altbier pours a deep brown color from a 330ml swing top bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel and earthy. A medium bodied altbier. Malts are caramel and sweet. Some floral and earthy flavors are balanced by a touch of spiciness and grassiness. Nice carbonation. Smooth taste with a nice dry finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Clear, dark amber color with medium sized tan head. Aroma has roasted malt, caramel, maple. Flavor is slightly bitter, creamy. A good, solid alt, but nothing amazing

Pours a clear dark amber with a pillowy tan head. Aroma of smoky malt and a bit of hops. Flavor is surprisingly watery, with some caramel maltiness and German hops in the background. Tastes much less than 6.5%. Finishes sweet and moderately dry.

This is the second occasion that I have had Zum Uerige Sticke in the bottle. Both were imported to the US. In fact, my beer was dated 10.25 meaning that it was a 2005 bottle. Bloody shame!Needless to say, this beer does not seem to hold up very well in the bottle, especially after one year. The aroma had pronounced notes of prune that must have been from oxidation. The malt presence was considerable as was the hop flavor and bitterness. The balance of the clean flavors begs this to be sampled from its birthplace.

Bottle dated 25/10. I’m spending my Super Bowl watching time enjoing this and <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/uerige-alt/7836/ Alt. Have to say, this may be a bit over-hyped. Pours a foamy head; more settled than the UAlt. The malts are a bit smoother, like this has gotten some good aging in, and the hops have mellowed out, too, with bitterness only showing up in the aftertaste. There is a definite feel of more alcohol than the regular UAlt. I had expected something roasty or smoky, but couldn’t really catch it. May be flatter, or just supposed to me more subtle and mellowed.

Bottle: Poured a flat deep brown color alt with a small foamy head with no lacing. Aroma of huge caramel malt with some sweetness. Taste is also dominated by some sweet malt with loads of caramel notes. Body is quite full with no real carbonation. Interesting and refreshing but nothing really earth shattering in here.

Thick raison brown colored. Has a fairly complex sweet flavor. Probably wouldnt pick it up again, but certainly not bad., Just not a favorite style for me.
