Dry with a nice malt aftertaste. maltydogs (3), USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 19, 2005 The gold standard for alt beers. Malty with a nice hop background. My favorite beerstyle and my favorite beer from this style. hefehound (3), virginia beach, Virginia, USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 29, 2004 Pours a hazy brownish copper with a slightly nice foamy off white head. Aroma is of roasted malts with a nice touch of hops. Flavour is malty at first, but the extra dose of hops dry this out and make it a pleasure to drink. Great stuff. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Poured into a tall, straight sided Gosser glass, the beer is a clear reddish copper color, with about an inch of creamy colored foam. Surprisingly effervescent, but the head dies down in short order to a thin cap. No lacing. Nice clean malt in the aroma, with just a touch of a canned peach scent in the aroma.
A bold, crisp, clean and almost toffee-like maltiness gives way to a subtle floral/spicy hop finish. Still rather prominent in the carbonation, but without a bite from the fizz. Great classic German flavor. The flavor did not hold up when paired with a bold Glouchester cheese, however. Then again, an English/German dynamic is sometimes better avoided. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 7, 2004 Dark amber to brown in color. Smaller, but dense and stable bone colored head. Side of the glass just a covering of lace. Mild aroma of rye bread, caramel, and crushed dried flowers and mild blue cheese. Starts small and builds as it warms. Has a spicy undertone from the start. Light sweetness mingles with this acidic bite. Deep rich caramel flavors. Light on the tongue. Linger is pure malt nirvana. Yet, to many hops still can be too much of a distraction. bierkoning (6097), La Tropica, Netherlands

Hoppy, very malty flavor. This beer has a good hop character, but that is cahllanged by the malt, the wine-like character and the biscuit and butterscotch flavors. World class beer!. Thanks Dortmunder, for providing me with this gem.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 29, 2004 My bottle had the same numbers as the one at left (29.01 on top and 29.02 on the bottom). Good soft light brown color, with some light ambers and fuzzy peaches. Aroma of soft fuzzy hops, lightly sticky caramel malt and some damp musty basement notes. The flavor was soft, mild and lightly warming, but the mouthfeel blew me away. This is the epitome of soft, even delicateness, without being thin. Lightly sweet throughout, (light caramel, light brown fruits) and a hint of brown sugar perhaps. Hops are smooth and nowhere near as bitter as I would expect from this. Extremely drinkable, supremely balanced and I can't say I noticed any alcohol. Has a faint peachy warming sensation on the finish after it has warmed considerably. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 20, 2005 Clear, dark copper body with a grayish, tight silky head. Nice deep maltiness with aromas of toffee, caramelization and ginger bread. Deep earthy hops and notes of oak. Malt and hop combination gives the impression of an earthy single malt scotch. Fairly sweet but firmly bitter and well-balanced. This is really nice and a personal epiphany for the style. I’d be happy to drink this regularly.
