Deep chestnut colour with thick lasting beige head. I enjoy the slightly off flavours of this beer. Gives it individuality/character with the sliight sour/slight over burnt cereal aroma. Some sour orange zest on aroma. Clean toffee and then this slight clementine/sour orange pith on finish. I love the toasty malt finish on this. There’s even some peppery hop. Certainly the best German beer I’ve had today. Crisp carbonation lends to the peppery hop. Nice. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA

The beer pours a cloudy amber with a beautiful head and lacing. The aroma is subdued, hinting at the caramel malts and grassy hops that will delight the tongue. The flavor is mellow but absolutely lovely -- warm malt, caramelized pears, a hint of pepper, iron, and a soft rounded bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel is both rich and refreshing, and overall the beer is a great pleasure to drink. What a nice brew! RedHaze (370), Where the hell am I?, Nebraska, USA

Smell; a litlle had to pick anything out at first, but after it warmed a bit some the aromas came out. A little nutty with some figs and sweet berries. There’s also a bit of floral hops.
Taste; mmm..lots of malts, caramel and molasses. Dried figs, and cherries, walnuts and some allspice. There’s just a bit of a hop bitterness towards the end to balance it out a bit. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and so easy to drink. It’s almost gone and I feel like I just started drinking it.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2006 From an attractive 11,2 oz distinctively shaped swing top brown bottle with a coded bottled on date on neck label, 31.01. Made a good appearnace, poured a amber hued brown with a fizzy, bubbly pale tannish head. Had a nice tasty aroma, raisins and dark fruits, a little citric, and a sweet bready maltiness with whiffs of alcohol. Good carbonation and a slick, smooth light bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Very tasty, raisins and citric fruity, a little piney, a nice hop bite on the tongue, an underlining bready maltiness, a dry sour fruity finish with a lingering alcohol burn in the palate.

A very good beer but measured bitterness was only 26 IBU’s. All the stories on the internet about higher hoprates and dry hopping are b******t. It has more alcohol than Uerige Alt, but less bitterness. GG (1672), NorCal, California, USA

Shaped like a German handgrenade, the beer won’t blow up the taste buds with anything unusual, but it you will be happy that you took the time to drink this. An aroma of sweet caramel malts, earthy hops, slightly nutty, and a bit oxidized. A ruddy brown, hazy color with a 1-finger thick head. Caramel malts, grassy with just a touch of spices makes this one a drinker. Reminded me of a subdued English barleywine in some ways. Very tasty beer. I enjoyed this one much more than their Dopple Sticke.
