BMan1113VR (762), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA May 15, 2008 Listed at 6%. Pours with a small, off-white, rocky head covering a slightly murky brown body. Some lacing left over. Aroma has some raisins, dark fruits and sweet malts. Taste is odd, buttery corn, some DMS, smoked elements, rochefort notes, and completely lacks any sweetness whatsoever. Savory and some hints of oxidation. I am not sure how to treat this as it is only my second Alt, and I am not sure how true to the style the other one I had was. This is very drinkable, but no sweetness is very different after all the barely wines that I have been drinking recently.
The_Captain (280), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 28, 2008 Pop top bottle- Amber brown pour with a tan foam head. Aroma of brown sugar, dark fruits, caramel. Smooth on the palate and malty but with a bit of a dry aftertaste and tinge of bitters. Good Alt and good flavor, a little bitter and earthy on the back end. moseslikesbeer (166), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 28, 2008 Bottle shared by the_Captain. ver complex aroma of brown sugar, malt, dark fruit and b yeast. Didn’t really taste like it smelled but got better as it got warmer. Nice hazy brown color with an off white creamy head. tasted like brown sugar and grass or earthy notes. My only complaint was that it was very very dry. Kind of reminded me of an English bitter but very dry finish. Good brew though. afireinside96 (390), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 28, 2008 Bottle shared by The_Captain. Thanks Mark. Pours hazy brown with a foamy tan head. Smells of dough, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit. After smelling it I was expecting a rich, complex flavor but all I really tasted was an earthy bitter dough flavor. It was good, just not as amazing as I was expecting after reading reviews of it. BeerGestapo (297), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2008 (GERMAN) Pours a hazy amber / brown color with a med-tan head. The aroma is of dry fruits, brown sugar, and pepper. Taste is kind of hoppy with a roasted walnut flavor !! The finish is dry and very drinkable, nice lacing too. I must say that i enjoyed this brew very much. :) BeerIsMyGod (7), USA does not count Jul 17, 2008 initially, I got an nose of cherry, but it further developed into a bit of a fig aroma, with some hints of "other fruit" tartness. Upon an initial sip, fig definitely stands out as the dominant flavor. It a very good beer with deep, rich fruit flavors. I’m not quite sure what I was getting, but it was dark, rich, and bold. A very rich brew.
