Commercial Description:
Wheat is growing in Düsseldorf: At Uerige a group of confessional wheat beer lovers sprung to life spontaneously when the new, light-colored beer was served for the first time. And the taste does them justice.

Golden color, small head. Light banana vanilla nose. Very light vanilla taste, doughie and suprisingly lots of lavender. I didn’t find it bad, just unusual.

an unusual hefe. Lacking everything a german hefe has to offer really. Interesting and quite thick. A bit citrusy with a bitter finish. Enjoyed at the brewpub

(swing top bottle) Hazy yellow colour with a firm and foamy medium head. Intense aroma of citrus fruits, wheat and floral hops. Medium body and carbonation. Malty and fruity (kiwi, citrus) taste, dry and quite bitter & lasting finish. Nice and uncommon Weizen.

Bottled at the bräuhaus
Cloudy golden color; big creamy head. The aroma is light, with some malt, very light flowers (original!), perfumy! Quite ordinary taste, with some citrus fruits and surprisingly bitter final. Out of the ordinary, closer to a Belgian Ale than expected; pleasant.

A good beer, but I like the regular alt better, seemed less of a hefe, compared to what I´d be used to, I did like the flavor, but there´s more to like in the regular alt.

Bottle, at the brewpub. Hazy gold, good white head and moderate natural condition. Initial sulphurous aroma gives way to a gentle grainy wheatiness and some trace banana notes. Sweet and chalky in the mouth with some wheaty esters and slight fruitiness. Chalky finish with yeast and trace hop bitterness. Pleasant but ultimately overshadowed by the Alt.

Yellow beer with pistacchio shine, thick dense yellow-tinted head. Very perfumed, spicey nose; cloves, vanilla, wheat; slowly fading. Sweet, slightly sourish taste, clashing from the start with some roasted taste, probably enhanced by hops. This last is typical Zum Uerige, the first is the Weizenbier characteristics, albeit somewhat drier, less fruitier than the Bavarians (but as to qualify this as American Wheat!?) Some banana retronasal all the same. Sourish tinge makes it appear lighter than it is already. Some slickness, and some spritzyness at the same time. From the first time I tasted this beer, I found it unbalanced: the Uerige housestyle (yeast?) clashing with the Weizen branding. BTW, Josh, it is drunk more these days, I saw. Give me the Alt anytime.
