| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2009 Pours dark reddish brown with a frothy beige head. Aroma is fairly mellow with caramel, brown sugar, cherries, orange/lemon, light maple, and a little bourbon. Cherry notes in a barleywine often come out weird, but they’re slightly less bad here. Tastes of caramel, maple, leaves, tobacco, and old fruit. Finishes earthy but there’s lingering old fruit and cherry with toast, wood, and light char winning out. Medium-heavy, mostly creamy mouthfeel, carbonation is both frothy and prickly, heat is present. Seems somewhere between English and American BWs, at least in style. If only it didn’t have cherry characteristics....

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 21, 2009 (Bottle, XVI anniversary, at Akkurat) Poured dark brown and hazy with medium sized and lightly tan coloured head. Aroma contained lot of malts and some treacle. Palate was full bodied and bit stinging with medium carbonation. Flavours were lot of malts, salty liquorice, hops, chocolate, bread, molasses and bitterness. Aftertaste was bitter and malty. 5000 (2600), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Bottle XIV Anniversary: Deep ruby, a little fiery, moderate to thin light beige head, frothy, falls quickly, spotty lacing.   Malt forward nose, a little sweaty and sockish, otherwise a slight hop character with minor citrus oriented aromas.
On the tongue I get a decent malt base, slight astringent citrus bitterness, with a little bit of a sweet citrusy tail.   In some sense it seems young, yet its not really all that brash.   Does seem juvenile, but I bet 6
months to a year would correct that.   For a 10.4% Barley Wine, it sure hides it well.   No real heat in the finish.   Maybe its a mormon trick!   Pleasing to drink, with only a slight citrus astringency that tends to
detract.   Hopefully some months, or a year, will settle that down.   As a Barley Wine, its decent.   Maltier than others, yet not as viscous.   Hides its ABV very well.   Yet, certainly has a certain youthfullness
that asks to be cellared a bit.   Body and mouthfeel on this on are fairly moderate.   Not weak by any means, but needs a bit of time for its citrusy punch to mellow out a bit.   Good Barley Wine, and certainly good
considering the origin of this beer.   Thanks to douglas88 for the rare opportunity to try this beer!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2009 Thick brown pour with light tan head....syrup look. Smell is fruity and booze. Taste is ruich balance of malts with hops on the back end. The 10+% booze is noticeable but not bad. ben4321 (1041), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2009 Location: 12 oz bottle from Wine and Beer Westpark, 12/11/09
XVI Anniversary Edition, bottled 7/16/09
Aroma: The nose has some brown sugar, bourbon/alcohol, wood, toffee
Appearance: This beer is very important. It has many leather-bound books and it pours rich, translucent mahogany with a lasting beige head. It’s friends with Merlin Olsen, too, he drinks it...on occasion.
Flavor: It is pretty well balanced, a malty feel, some subtle fruity sweetness and a nice hop backing as well
Palate: This one has a full body, soft carbonation, and a mild alcohol burn considering that is over 10%
Overall Impression:
Anytime I’m able to go Ron Burgundy on my review, hey that’s a great start to the review. As for the beer, I like it, it is pretty tasty. Really enjoyable I must say. A nice brew, from Utah, a state most of us thought hardly made a decent beer. Anyway, this is the only brewery I’ve tried from Utah, and while the Four + beers have only been decent, this one was actually quite nice. Well done by Uinta here, would happily drink this one again. More specifically, I’d like to try this one again with some more age on it to see how it develops over time.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 10, 2009 Pours dark amber with offwhite head that retains reasonably well to a thin laced rimjob. Nose is fresh with some pine and brown sugary baked goods. Palate has the same elements with piney hops, caramel & brown sugar sweetness, and a little alcohol warmth on the finish. More easy drinking than many barleywines. I’ll have to get this one on draft when I’m in Utah next time. Strykzone (1496), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Thanks Hayduke! XVI edition. Dark red brown with a large tan head that finally fades to an uneven pillow effect. A rich malt aroma with some roasted notes. Alcohol is immediately tasted. Again, that rich malt, pine, toffee, brown sugar. The alcohol flavors reduced and a nice hop / malt balance emerged as the glass warmed. Very nice. BroSpud (612), , Massachusetts, USA

I was planning to age this one but only made it about 8 months before getting thirsty. Happy to report that at 8 months this is a mighty tasty beverage. I’m hoping that I can get my hands on a few more so that I can let them sit longer. Pours a dark brown with a creamy head and nice lacing. Excellent malty taste with plenty of hops in the after taste to keep me happy. This one falls right in my wheel house. Sledutah (110), Utah, USA

Appearance: Dark brown with a reddish tint, nice tan head with lots of lace left in the glass.
Aroma: Roasted malt with chocolate and grapefruit flavors.
Taste: Bitter hops with roasted malts. Hints of chocolate and fruit.
Overall: This is a very easy drinking Barley Wine. There is some sweetness but it is well balanced with plenty of hops.
