Svesse (1811), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2008. Labeld XV Anniversary Barley Wine) Dark ruby red with lasting pale brown head, leaving lots of lacing. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of pine needles, chocolate nad orange peel. Malty, hoppy taste with chocolate, blood oranges, orange peel, pine needles and resin. Long, hoppy finish. Rather sweet, but balanced by the hops. Medium to full body. Complex. Very tasty and quite brilliant. BMan1113VR (911), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Oct 2, 2008 15th Anniversary, bottled 7/21/08. Pours with a hazy deep red body, and a small, off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is hoppy, tangy with lots of caramel, with some prunes and dark fruits. Taste is very malty, slightly nutty with a slight burnt astringency towards the end. Thick mouthfeel with sharpish bubbles. Might mellow a bit in 3 or 4 years, but the starting product isn’t really promising enough to warrant the wait. jsh12bama (227), Alabama, USA Oct 1, 2008 Pours ruby red with thick tan head.
