SilkTork (4151), Rochester, Kent, England Sep 6, 2004 Maidstone Fest. Tobaco aroma. Smokey toffee ale. Like a hybrid of an Irish Red and an Old Ale. Deeply, deeply gorgeous. I could drink gallons of this stuff. Honey, ash, fruit-cake, etc, etc, etc. Flavours oozing with every juicy mouthful. Yummy. M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg Aug 14, 2007 Cask, GBBF 2007. Sweet toffee malts, lots of chocolate fudge. Some yeasty bread tones. Slightly hazy brown with no head. Mouth is sweet caramel toffee. Vanilla fudge. Finishes vanilla and sweet. Great. Fin (3376), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Apr 16, 2006 Merton Beer Festival Sept 2004. Red/brown in colour much like the description say’s, very nice aroma, and a wonderful full flavoured pint, plenty of malt not to sweet great depth simple excellent. Uley beers are without doubt superb when served well and are one of my favourite’s I find they have quite a unique taste and they are almost always extremely good. I remember having a brewery trip with Worcester CAMRA there back in the early nineties we were left with a glass and the cellar shown the Old Spot, Uley Bitter and Pigor Mortis (sadly no more) as someone went looking for the brewer who was at home. We had about three hours merrily drinking on a glorious summers day and happily helped ourselves like we were instructed what a wonderful day, we were truly wellied by the time the brewer eventually turned up. downender (2528), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Jul 28, 2007 Cask-conditioned at the Old Spot, Dursley, Gloucs. Deep brown with reddish tones and a slight beige head. Aroma was very malty, with plenty of red and dark fruits and some almonds. Easy drinking for a 5% beer, the flavour was of more fruit, with some chocolate and a long, bitter finish. I could drink this all day. Ethereal (1500), London, Greater London, England Jul 2, 2009 Cask at the White Horse, Parsons Green with tashi, 14th May 09. Deep ruby amber. Sweet malty taste. A warm, drinkable beer. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Dec 2, 2006 (Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 25 Nov) Mahogany colour with ruby notes, small head. Fruity nose with dark fruit, berries (blueberries, blackberries) and caramel. Malty, fruity taste with notes of wild berries, cherries, chocolate and caramel. Balanced sweetness throughout. Velvety and nice. chriso (4665), London, Greater London, England May 30, 2007 Cask (gravity dispense), Reading Beer Festival, April 2006. Dark brown colour. Fruity and malty. Smooth, sweetish mouthfeel. Some light, earthy hops. Fairly chewy but surprisingly easy drinking. More like a strong bitter than an old ale. A nice drop.
haddonsman (1234), Derby, Derbyshire, England Oct 25, 2005 Cask (gravity dispense) at the Olde Dolphin Inn summer beer festival, Derby. Ah, something to get yer lips round after a long sesh of golden ales. Sweet malts and slightly pickled fruits. Loses its way a little toward a thin finish.
