Commercial Description:
Axe Handle Pale Ale is a “West-coast” pale ale. Hopped during the boil and “dry hopped” after fermentation, the flavor and aroma come from the Cascade hops. This ale finishes with a firm bitterness and malt aftertaste.

(Sample at Uncle Billy’s on August 2, 2008) What is that at the bottom of my glass? Something on the side, indistinguishable. Whatever it is, it’s maintaining a nice constant head. Axe Handle has a clear, light body, a golden orange color. Having a hard time getting any aroma to register with my brain. I think I’m aromally challenged. Something reminds me of soap, though. It’s light hop aroma leads one to uncontrollably place the fluid in one’s mouth… and there’s the hops. Rye? Light, but with a creamy body. Prickly on the tongue. Entertaining. Glad to have so many chips. Continuing, and turning focus to my beer and away from the patronage, the Axe Handle sees to have a lighter color as the mass depletes. Really good for a local Austin pale.

Pours kind of dark for a pale ale... similar to their amber’s color: ruby/brown/dark red. Aroma has a hoppy presence and so does the flavor. Although it has Cascade hops, which I don’t typically get along too well with, I quite liked the brew. On tap.

For a pale, it’s dark, the color of apple cider. It pours with a lot of foam, few couple inches, as do most pales. Weak hoppy aroma. Very strong hop flavor. It’s good, damn near like an IPA. Small carbonation. Sweet malt comes through on the finish.

Strong citrus aroma with some hop presence. Foggy orange color. Citrus orange flavor with a good hop bitterness.
