Bockyhorsey (2020), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 29, 2008 Sampled @ Uncle Billys BrewCue. Smokedhouse aroma on the nose. Black body with tan head. Hint of sweet coco but the smoke flavor definently stood out. Thinner body texture easy on the palate.
ansermadide (236), Kyle, Texas, USA Aug 4, 2008 (Sample at Uncle Billy’s on August 2, 2008) Completely solid, dark. Light brown head. Solid, but falling lacing. I’m licking my lips. Almost black. Aroma is of seriously roasted chocolate and wood. Reminds me of a London Porter, but more rustic. More Texan. Aroma is light and seriously like a big whiff of real Texas smoked barbecue. Helps that I’m at a barbecue joint. Leave it to the barbecuing Texans to make a Rauchbier. Flavor is more of the same, but with more fumes. Warmer now, more alcoholic… about as good as their IPA, but with better body. alexanderj (1338), San Diego, California, USA Jun 30, 2008 On tap at Uncle Billy’s; poured a black/dark brown body with a smallish, light brown head. Aroma was a nice balance of roasted malt and smoky wood; some caramel hints. Flavor was very good; smoking was done in moderation creating a good balance with the familiar porter flavors. Good mouthfeel. Enjoyed this one. fly (1245), austin, Tejas, USA May 19, 2008 Hope Brian winds up doing this one again. If I recall correctly, he smoked his own malt there in the bbq smoker. It sure tasted like he did and I loved it. I’m not the biggest porter fan, but apparently do appreciate a well smoked one. kidmartinek (731), austin, Texas, USA Feb 23, 2008 Dark brown, cocoa appearance. Thick head. Medium cocoa aroma with maple. Very strong, slightly bitter cocoa and coffee flavor with maplewood smoke finishing it out. Medium/ havy mouthfeel that turns runny quickly and goes down with a quickly dissipating fizz. Some of these uncle billy’s brews do have that seltzer effect.
