PorterPounder (2853), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Mar 26, 2003 Looking for something unusual - celebrating the fact that I am taking the next two days off from work - so I picked this up. Good choice. Cashier at the liquor store told me - "be careful - it's 11%" - could have fooled me - hidden well. Attractive, classy looking bottle to start off. The pour - nice and golden with a thin, pearl white head - looks like champagne. Aroma - detect cloves and bananas. Cloudy appearance with continuous bubbles. Flavor - detect cloves, bananas and citrus flavors. Mellows as it warms and alcohol is hidden well (in the flavor - but I KNOW it is there). Overall, an excellent ale - best from Unibroue I have had.
gunhaver (660), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 10, 2008 Bottle, at BA Throwdown #2. Pours a golden reddish color, creamy lacing, nice head. Bright cider nose, Belgian yeast, some mellow notes. Creamy notes of vanilla and caramel. Some interesting creamy maltiness, with lots of wheat. Drinkable, held up very well, very good. sneagrams3 (1454), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 4, 2008 Tasted 8/19/08. 750ml cork and cage. Upon opening, the cork is stinky and darkened. Pours a hazy body with a golden orange hue. Slight trace head with no pop when it was opened. Candy nose with hints of grapes, citrus and berries. Good nose! Ever so slight vinuous note. Full bodied with a solid yet melded burn. Typical Unibroue character with a nice mix of citrus and honey. Medium roasted sweet malts. As complex as this beer is, I keep going over and over the honey and citrus flavors. Stickt finish with a faint slight hop character. So smooth with flavors of graham crackers and lemon acidity. Moderate effervescence. So good! And I still have one left! mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 12, 2008 [1512-20080704] 20floz bottle. Florally sweet malt aroma has heavy hay straw notes and hints of floral lemon. Murky, light brown orange body with quick white bubbles and lots of floaties. Belgian yeast flavour also has muted hay and malt and lemon yeast. Medium body seems a little flat. Interesting to try, holding its age fairly well.

Aside: This was the bottle jerc and I brought back with us from Montreal c/o Glouglouburp via HogTownHarry for tupalev, who then kindly shared it with us! Pwn3d (621), NYC, New York, USA Jul 26, 2008 Courtesy of BeerBuzzMontreal, thank you! I was fully aware this brew was about 6-7 years of age.. rendering it a completely different animal then it was originally intended. Poured orange hue. Taste was toffee and alcohol. Reminded me, unfortunately, of Lucifer with a quarter shot of vodka. Some citrus notes apparent. Medium bodied. Tasted like it was once legendary, but a little too aged- yielding it difficult to rate. jredmond (621), New Jersey, USA Jul 16, 2008 750mL split with pwn3d. Pours a bright cloudy orange with small head. The aroma is fruit and alcohol. Im guessing this is around 15% abv now that its aged for several years. The taste is very strong - with fruit again. I wish I could try this when it was first released. However, still a good beer considering the high alcohol.
