Skeegle (318), USA Jul 18, 2008 Very very nice. This ale tastes just tart enough, just sweet enough, just crisp enough to make it a great beer. Fairly decent complexity as well, with flavors of lemon, banana, honey, buscits, sourdough, and lemony lemonaid drink mix sugar. It has a wonderful palate that is not bloating but is incredibly lively and powerful in the mouth. $7 for a 30month old 1pt 9oz bottle, I am very happy I picked this one up.
santoslhalper (189), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 4, 2008 Thanks to Tom Baker for the bottle! Clear gold with a rich, frothy white head. Nice carbonation. Spicy, yeasty nose with clove, honey, ginger, grass, lemon, pepper and pear notes. Incredibly dry, slightly acidic taste. Ginger, spice, honey, lemon, orange, apple, white wine and pear. Very very bubbly. Aged very nicely, but the Unibroue yeast taste can’t be hidden. Too spicy, as usual, for me - it detracts from the balance. The ethanol alcohol taste increases as it warms up. biznizness (704), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Oct 3, 2008 This was just a nice Belg. I was getting some interesting flavors in there... some white wine tannins, and some notes of brie. Enjoyed this enjoyably. FROTHINGSLOSH (1510), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 2, 2008 Rating 1500!Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this one was a bit of a gusher pouring a dark orange-ochre color with a large orange-amber head. The aroma was yeasty, caramel, butterscotch and a notes of pear and apple. The flavor was sweetish, tangy butterscotch and caramel. There was a light fruity undertone and the typical yeasty bready Unibroue house character. The alcohol showed through a bit and there was a hint of cognac. Decent but nothing special. dmac (886), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Sep 28, 2008 750 ml bottle from the Wine King thanks to msiano. Pours a super deep red/brown with a light coating of an off white head. Sweet aroma lots of dark fruit and nuts, dates, figs, raisins, plums and prunes, slight alcohol notes coming through upon warming. Medium bodied with very soft carbonation. Flavor is still very solid with notes of sweet dark tropical fruit, dates, sherry and cognac. This one is aging nicely and still has some life left. beerdad (49), Kansas, USA Sep 14, 2008 Bottled pours hazy yellow with medium white head. Yeasts and plum permeate the aroma. Flavors are of yeast and citrus and alcohol. I’ve always loved everything from this brewery, but this was just ok. Maybe because it was bottled years ago, who knows.
