CapFlu (3242), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Apr 15, 2008 (750ml bottle) Purchased at Brewery Creek in Vancouver for $9.95. Pours a gorgeous lasting head with a deep brown-ruby. Nose of good malt, clove and ginger with date as a base. Flavour is unbelievably good - a return to Unibroue 10 or 11 - full bodied fig dried fruit, red wine, strong barley, green grass with a woody, burnt toast. So nice to see the return of a great Unibroue annual as opposed to those spearmint-crap years...
eboats (822), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jul 16, 2008 Bottled. Looks like I just got done firing off some nasty liquid shits into the toilet. The kind where it streams out and turn the whole bowl brown. Head is a creamy looking light brown covering the top of this mess. Aroma is spiced, herbal, and dry. Flavor is heavily spiced and has some winter spices that stick out. Gingerschnap cookies which fade to a sweeter fruit with those spices still very forceful. Brown sugar and good carbonation almost a little too fizzy. DYCSoccer17 (1994), Davis, California, USA Jul 15, 2008 750 mL bottle purchased at BevMo in Vacaville. Cork opens with a thunderous pop. Unique, herbal aroma is present. I get some spiciness...almost some celery salt or dill or something along those lines at first. Some of the classic Unibroue yeasts create some estery notes in the aroma. There is a light sweetness, that is muffin like. A really unique aroma on this one...I can’t pin it down. Moderately hazy amber color with some brown hues. A fluffy tan head is present. Nice lacing is left. Very fruity start with some prunes and grapes. Becomes more sticky and malty with a great deal of brown sugar flavors and a lot of molasses. Quite sticky. There is a bit of a dry bitterness towards the finish and the ethanol is warming and a bit too noticeable. With all that said, this would make a killer winter warmer with it’s spiciness and stickiness. On a hot summer day, it doesn’t seem as appropriate. gunhaver (541), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bottle, courtesy Tony at Oldsmar Tap House. Tea colored pour, with some red highlights. Giant fluffy white head, with a huge amount of lacing. Very spicy nose, fig, a hot cinnamon presence, yeast, and has a nice Christmas feeling. Spicy flavors, brown sugar, banana, molasses, some coriander, wheat and a nice hoppiness in the finish. Complex, fairly drinkable. Mouthfeel is tangy and spicy, and the ABV is very well hidden. Bungalo22 (218), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA Jul 13, 2008 A really nice, big fluffy head on the pour into a tulip glass. Smells of Belgian sugars, nuts and a caramel like smell. A smooth taste but you can pick up a bit of the alcohol. As it warms this beer gets better and better. the 10% hits you after the bottle but the taste of alcohol really mellows over time. It is sweet, rich and a tasty beer. oteyj (254), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jul 12, 2008 Pours dark ruby brown with two finger white head. Nose is of spice and molasses- lots of sweetness in the form of fruit and malt. Flavor is yeasty with fruity esters, citrus, and molasses. Prickly and full mouthfeel, but nothing outstanding. Another bread and butter belgian from unibroue.
