tiggmtl (4180), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 31, 2008 Gingerbread, chocolate cookie dough, cinnamon, brown sugar, sweet floral characteristics and dark fruit notes all blend together with a touch of alcohol in the very inviting nose. Opaque and somewhat muddy brown colour is topped by a generous, large bubbled, tan-cream coloured head that recedes slowly to a thick but partial cover with some spotty lacing. Flavour offers some toasted malt and plenty of yeasty cookie dough and chocolate characteristics. Fair bitterness reigns in the sweetness and keeps it from becoming cloying. Plenty of dark fruitiness especially in the aftertaste. Medium body with rather insistent but not unpleasant carbonation that really awakens the tongue. I’m finding this quite expressive although I’m drinking it rather warm. It only sat in the cellar for a couple of hours between purchase at room temperature and opening the bottle so it’s still quite warm. Will be interesting to compare to the second bottle which I’ll wait to cool down first. Tulip glass. Just below room temperature. (Brewery Creek, Mar-08).
beerdad (42), Kansas, USA Aug 29, 2008 Bottled. Pours mahogany with a frothy light tan head. Aromas of plums, cherrys and caramel. Flavors similar, but with bite from the alcohol, which surprisingly does not overpower the beer.I have never had a bad beer from these guys, and this one is no different. SoberCajun (3), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA does not count Aug 29, 2008 Great strength, sweet and spicy and complex. Amazing character and color - deep copper-brown with tan head. Love the alcohol kick at the end. taalhiker (11), , Ohio, USA Aug 26, 2008 750ml bottle - part of a Unibroue tasting at a local store. Dark brown color. Typical Unibroue aroma. Rich, full mouthfeel. Needs some time in the bottle as it seems pretty tight. Ibrew2or3 (1685), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Aug 22, 2008 0.750L bottle pours mildly hazy amber with big bubbles tan head. The aroma is complex with fruitiness like apricots, plums, apples, tart cherries and freshly unwrapped band-aid to go along with notes of assorted kitchen cabinet spices. Interesting. The taste begins with some mildly sweet apples, apricots and plums and then moving toward raisins and semi tart cherries. As the fruitiness transitions near midway a solid wheated malt note surfaces to break up the sweet and tart fruit. I seem to get both bandAid, a faint note of wood into the finish and a medicinal quality along the same lines as the band-aid note. Different than most of the Unibroue offerings I’ve enjoyed in the past. dolemite77 (156), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Aug 21, 2008 Hazy brown with a lacy head. Good lacing. Sweet aroma, with a vegetal note with the yeast expected from Unibroue. Flavor is sweet and rich, with herbal, spice, and caramel flavors. Definite alcohol bite to this one. Some soy sauce flavors that usually are present in imperial stouts... very interesting beer... maybe not as easily drinkable as the 16, but much more complex.
